The township was entirely flooded and suffered catastrophic damage. 16 pumps were used to expedite the pumping process at Sri Muda. There was a lack of food for two days at the township, leading to looting at several inundated convenience stores and supermarkets. It's happens due to heavy downpours and also topography of that area plus the weak drainage system makes its worst. Once the flood already been overcome/ended the selangor government try to reduce the flood after effects by improving the drainage system and also building more pumps around that area.

One of the reason is due to high topographic and meteorological complexity for some regions. In this findings, the interested hydrologist will make a decision to have a better water management in Malaysia due to hourly-based rainfall dataset. Hence, for future research, the researchers can use the data and could pave the way for a better understanding of flash flood in Malaysia

This is the worst flooding in Kelantan since 1927 with approximately the return period of rainfall of 1: 1000 years.
Flood in Kelantan is mainly caused by heavy rainfall brought by the Northeast monsoon starting from November to March every year. It is categorized as annual flood as it occurs every year during the Monsoon season. Crossing the river from upstream systems that meet at the confluence Kuala Krai quickly cause overflow of irrigation and drainage, rain of 850mm for 10 days in Kelantan is more than the normal rate of 100 mm.

Besides heavier rain factor, there is also deforestation factor. Some deforestation even occurred in the catchment area or waterway

In December 2014, Kelantan was hit by the worst flood ever recorded in history where flood levels reach up to 5 to 10 meters.

As stated by the Minister of Environment and Water, the floods occurred due to unusually heavy rainfall in the space of two hours, and the existing drainage system was unable to support the high flow of water. Climate change was also a factor, as March normally witnesses drought conditions. Flood management is carried out by ensuring that power is restored to affected areas in stages, depending on access and local conditions, and by conducting round-the-clock online flood monitoring using a closed-circuit television camera. As a result of the heavy rains, 250 flood victims were evacuated from Kuala Lumpur.

Homes are surrounded by floodwaters in Sohbat Pur city, a district of Pakistan’s southwestern Balochistan province, August 29, 2022.

This happens due to the continuously heavy rainfall in June-September which is it began to inundate the villages. The continuously heavy rainfall is the causes where the soil received excessive amount of water and the excessive water will causes the flood. Other than that, the drain system in this country might be the problem where the drain is small and dirty full with rubbish which this lead to blockage in the drain.
Within a month, as per the NDMA, more than 300 people had lost their lives. Three in every ten deaths occurred in Balochistan, Pakistan’s poorest province, and two in every ten in Sindh. Thousands of people had lost a roof over their head amid continuous rains. Six major rivers across the country had overflown and were expected to cause even more flood and damage will come in the future.
Drain system is also important in every country to minimize and lower the probability of flood happening in the country. The drain must be more deep and wider as it can hold enough water to make the flow smoothly and efficiently.

Climate change could led to the environmental predicament that we are live today. The analysis shows that current temperature increase to 1.1 degrees temperature are higher compared with 19th century, humans are no longer able to stop global warming from becoming more intense in the next three decades. In the past century, the oceans have risen by over 20cm and continue to rise by another 90cm, in part due to ice sheets in Greenland and Antarctica destabilising as well as unprecedented melting and receding of glaciers. Malaysia will be impacted by global warming, although we may not feel as such primarily because of relatively uniform temperatures all year. By 2050, Malaysia is projected to be hotter by 1.5 degree celsius and also forecasted to experience more torrential rainfall with more flooding.
Source : https://www.nst.com.my/opinion/columnists/2021/10/734295/expect-more-flooding-malaysia-because-global-warming

Selangor Flood Dicember 2021

This incident happen on 17-19 Dicember 2021. According to Y.B Puan Elizabeth Wong Keat Ping (N37 Bukit Lanjan), this flood happen because of our existing system unable to accomodate the high water capacity cause by the 300 mm rainfall. Besides, the topographical area is low compared to the water level of the river which cause exceed water overflowing out. Lastly, Urbanization zone reduces the level of water permeability and causes high runoff. To overcome the flood issue in the future, the Selangor State Government through the Department of Public Affairs has made a flood management plan through 2 methods which are structural measures and non-structural measures. Among the structural measures to deal with floods are building flood barriers, flood walls, flood tunnels, bypass channels and embankments for flood control purposes. Other than that, the Department of Public Affairs also planning on build a water control gate and pump house integrated with Supervisory Control System and Computerized Data Acquisition (SCADA). Next, the DPA also planning on widening and upgrading the drainage system. Onthe other hand, one of the non-structural measures is the National Flood Warning Forecasting Program (PRAB) which able to forecast monsoon floods 7 days in advance based on weather forecast data from the Malaysian Meteorological Department to warn the citizen and take safety measurement earlier. Futhermore, the use of the Flood Hazard Map for risk assessment purposes to reduce losses due to floods. Lastly, the non-structural way to overcome the effects of flooding are the use of Environmentally Friendly Drainage Manual (MSMA) guidelines that set mandatory requirements that must be followed for new developments in urban areas.
