I feel that The homework load and material given isn't overwhelming. I doesn't feel like it is busy work just to give us something to do. Last week I learned about the different customary ways to greet friends, family members and new acquaintances from different Spanish-speaking countries. In general, it's common for Latin Americans and Spaniards to greet one another with one or two kisses on the cheek. It also varies between gender and region.
Speaking of which, I also enjoyed reading the article about gender-neutral language. Reading, repetition and practicing pronunciation has been working for me so far. I also started to practice at work by speaking Spanish with my coworker. Even if I don't know how to say a phrase or word correctly, I ask her to correct me so that I can keep practicing. I think the more we are able to practice by speaking with others or even listening to Spanish through songs, movies, etc., the easier it will be to learn the language. One study tip I would recommend is to practice speaking and listening skills as much as possible. Find a language exchange partner or conversation group to practice with outside of class. I would also recommend using flashcards or other memorization techniques to help with vocabulary and grammar. Finally, try to immerse yourself in the language as much as possible by listening to music, watching TV shows, and reading books in Spanish.
