Most of us live near the harbour either the Waitemata harbour or the Manukau.
We are seeing increasing amounts of coastal erosion in our region which is a problem for us.
Locally, sea levels have risen around 16 cm over the past 100 years. Measurements taken from the Port of Auckland tide gauge show an average sea level rise of around 1.6 mm per year since 1899.

We experienced quite a rollercoster of weather changes in the months of September to November. We have had lots of rainfall and thunderstorms, causing drainage issues and mudslides at a nature reserve. Temperature also dropped to 24 deg, which is rather rare for a tropical country like Singapore. If you are keen to find out more about rain and soil erosion, here is an article published on the local newspaper - link.

Here in New South Wales we have been experiencing severe drought due to Climate change and global warming. This has caused devastating bushfires, which ravaged our South coast. Rising global temperatures are also causing land degradation, which leads to crop failure and lack of food sources for live stock, leading to thousands and dead cattle, sheep and horses. Increased temperature has also worsened La Niña , with higher levels of rainfall. This coupled with land degradation has led to land erosion, landslides and severe flooding which has had lasting negative impacts on agricultural land and townships.

Mauritius is a beautiful tropical island with only summer and winter. Years ago, our summer was with cyclones and it was experienced as the natural cycle of season and climate. I do remember when I was a child, cyclones were part of the environmental culture. Now, according to the meteorologists in Mauritius, climate change has impacted the 'natural' process. Flash floods have replaced cyclones and the 1st flash flood we had unfortunate human deaths as we were not prepared.
Here is a link with more scientific data to understand climate change in Mauritius: http://metservice.intnet.mu/climate-services/climate-change.php

I spent the summer in Turkey on the Mediterranean. This summer there were many wild fires, a very clear sign of climate change as there had been less rain that many other years. I then travelled to the north coast and my trip was interrupted by floods! This time, the area was receiving too much rain, which they never usually had at this time of the year.

Between 2019 and 2020, bushfires burned through Australia, turning green forests into ash, and producing plumes of smoke that hovered over the country like a shroud. While the flames have been extinguished for a while now, scientists are still scrambling to understand the full impact on the country’s native wildlife.

Bushfires impacted critical habitats of more than 800 native species, with 70 species losing more than 30% of their natural range.

The River Itter, running from Graefrath in Solingen to Benrath in Duesseldorf into the Rhine is going through the city of Hilden. On July 14th in 2021 with almost no warning 200 mm of rain per square meter rained down within a few hours. Grounds have been saturated through previous rain falls. The little river Itter turned into a stream, and since communities had straightened the river banks with concrete and rocks nothing slowed down the water. The city of Hilden experienced a flooding like never before. The whole summer of 2021 was one of the most rainy in the history of the area and was related to global warming by meteorologists.
