         <title>Battle of Dien Bien Phu- March 13- May 7 1954</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Was the first engagment of the first Indochina War. The Viet Minh commander Vo Nguyen Giapp sent troops in the mountains of the Dien Bien Phu valley to search for French troops. They ended up getting rid of the French Airfield, giving them the advantage. In May, the Vietminh took over the base and convinced the French Government to surrender in the Geneva Accords in 1954.          <title>Gulf of Tonkin Accident- August 2 1964 </title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>US destroyer Maddox fought with the Vietnamese torpedo boat at the Golf of Tonkin. They were then attacked by the North Vietnamese, in which Lyndon B. Johnson demanded an air stike on August 4. This resulted in the US having authority over Vietnam.          <title>The Tet Offensive-  January 30, 1968</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Viet Cong forces attacks 13 cities in central South Vietnam. Viectcong attacked the US Embassy in Saigon, which surprised the US as it was streamed live. The US ended up counter attacking the Vietcong in the city of Hue. It ended up being successful for the DRV. As Johnson was going to bomb the North Vietnamese, he decided to call for negotiations to end the Hue War.          <title>Operation Rolling Thunder- March 1965-October 1968</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>US military aricraft attack the Nort Vietnamese, which was intended to put military pressure and reduce wage war. This was the first sustained conflict for the US with North Vietnam. It was a huge contribution by the US to the Vietnam war. Lyndon B Johnson finally commited the first US soldiers for ground war. China and Soviet Union supported the Northern Vietnamese and also restrategized their techniques which resulted them into overpowering the US air force.          <description><![CDATA[<div>Upon Nixons presidency, this was to end US involvent in the war, and to lead South Vietnam to responsibility. Nixon tried to strengthen the South Vietnamese in order to beat the North Vietnamese. He also signed a peace agreement with them. This was significant to the Vietnam War because it gave protection to the South Vietnamese to prevent communist onslaught.
