What is a curator:
He states that to curate is to feel responsible for, and look after the objects in your possession. To create an mean illustrating some theme and anyone can arrange and organise an interior. It means to gather objects for a specific meaning or significance to create pleasure and harmony between all the objects for the human eye. However, within the modern world individuals are now developing curating through the media and networking sites, documenting their lives. Also, to curate can be the way an interior is being designed 

By implication what is an object and where does the significance of objects come from:
The significance of an object comes through the history, personal experiences and memory it brings to an individual and this is ordinarily human as everyone has objects that has either inheritance significance or sentimental significance as humans are materialistic. The object does not have to be physical in order to be meaningful as the online world allows connections and networks for fulfilment.

‘design’ fit into these definitions:
Flusser defines "form" as neither discoveries nor inventions, neither Platonic ideas nor fictions, but containers cobbled together for phenomena. He states that if form is the opposite of matter, then no design exists that could be called "material". Also, he addresses that if form is the "how" of matter and the "what" of form, then design is one of the method's of giving form to matter and making it appear as it does not like something else. Design fits within form and material by Flusser's explanation of stating that design, like all cultural expressions illustrates that matter does not appear expect in so far as one in-form it, and that, once in formed, it starts to appear. Also, he defines that matter in design as everywhere in culture, is the way in which forms appear. Through this I gain an understanding whereby Flusser is showing that nothing is "immaterial" and that everything has an importance as immaterial has been distorted. 

  

What does Flusser seem to think is the cultural importance of 

‘materiality’?:
Material is tangible, accessible by touch and it is undefined to be shaped by the context. The importance of materiality though a cultural sense can be depicted through the significance of stating that the material world is an illusion. Every object has a  thought that goes with it and culturally materials are important for specific cultures for example the bible which is a book is highly significant for the culture of Christianity.

 

 

How might any of the ideas in Flusser’s essay change the way you 

could look at your own chosen object in the Unit 1 project? [i.e. test 

out some of Flusser’s concepts by applying them to your object, what 

kinds of interpretations of your object does this produce?:
The material way that Flusser sees and thinks results in representations suggesting that my objects all have representations for something. My tin represents the care and support my mother gives me and that she will always be there to help me when needed. However, the tin itself is a laxatives tin so the literal representation is difficult to understand if I didn't explain it to someone who didn't know any context about my object. The formal way Flusser sees and thinks about his designing emphasises the form in the appearance, this can be related to my object by seeing the process of how it was made. It has been handmade through stitching and the paper has been cut and stuck my glue suggesting that the course of which the material can be seen is taking on a leading role.
