They are Citra-Scythe Anastasia, Rowan- Scythe Lucifer, and the Thunderhead- a computer based all-knowing being that is in charge of most governmental aspects of the world. Scythe Anastasia is a scythe whose method of gleaning (killing) is different than most; she gives her chosen a month's warning before their deaths. Scythe Lucifer is an invalid scythe who is not recognized by the scythedom because of his mission of finding and eliminating corrupt scythes who abuse their power. The Thunderhead knows all, and does not make mistakes. It cannot interfere with the scythedom, but it rules over most other aspects of the world, including the laws. I think Citra and Rowan, who trained together as apprentices, will come together again. The Thunderhead is puzzling however. Scythe Anastasia and Scythe Lucifer glean in their own ways. They met up in San Antonio to discuss events of the future. And a new character was introduced: Greyson. Greyson is not a scythe, but a normal man who is training to be a Nimbus Agent. As of right now it does seem like a pretty good place to live, even though there are corrupt scythes. You can live as long as you want unless a scythe gleans you, and you get payed just to exist. He says he can no longer swing, fish, smell the roses, dream. He has too much he has to do to enjoy a normal life. This is similar to how a scythe must live their life after being ordained. Scythe Faraday, Scythe Anastasia, Scythe Lucifer, will never live normal lives again. The conflict includes the murderous attempts themselves, as well as the mystery as to who is behind the attacks. The obvious choice of favorite character would be Scythe Anastasia, who I do like because I can relate to, but Scythe Curie is a very interesting character that has a bit of mystery surrounding her. She is renowned as a scythe, known as the "Grand Dame of Death." She gleaned the last political leaders of the Old World so that it could start anew. She is brutal, intelligent, calculating, and wise. She is a mentor to Scythe Anastasia, but she knows that there is much yet to learn. The plot is interesting and involves many characters and conflicts. It also includes interjections from the Thunderhead that provide an alternate perspective.
