The stimulus is something that triggers an emotion or an idea or a feeling of such. It can be the initial beginning of the lyrical ideas or the the beat to the song it self.

As a group the original reaction to the djembe was the way the drum represented the influence of the 3/2 clave. This is originated in the African area. The natural feel for a funky up beat style. While the idea for the 3/2 clave had been established the idea for which instrument to set the tone was debated between the bass or drums. Finally the drums was decided.

When coming to the development of ideas, drums was the easiest and therefore was the guide lines for the situation. Next to follow was the bass and electric guitar. Both of these fell into place rather quickly, this was due to the dance like beat of the drums.

The bass was repetitive and also a simple upbeat texture which was layered with the drum beat.

The electric guitar played more strumming of patterns rather than picking played to contrast nicely with the actual bass and drums.

The song itself could be used in many a place. The use of the 3/2 clave means that the beat can be used with multiple genres of music. This is the idea of fusion music. The performance itself needs development in the sense of focusing lyrically on the structure. The basic lyrics set the grounds for the initial feeling of the song; therefore the use the relevant lyrics are able to create an upbeat layering to the track to group all the individual instruments together.

Response to the stimulus in performance.

In the performance itself, the rhythm had a bounce feel to it. This created the dance feel which was initially intended. The song altogether had a upbeat and happy sound due to the use of use of the clave and then also the way the bass and the guitar played the same notes and chords but in different orders which contrasted nicely. Lyrically, this also fitted to the stimulus as they were based if a heart beat, it meant that like a heart rate on a monitor the sound put that across through the way the instruments sounded altogether. During the performance it all molded very well together a be represented the heart beat I feel that was intended and it came across so.

Responds from an audience and strengths and weeknesses.

When we finished performing to audience enjoyed the song. The bass and the drum beat was described as "Groovy" and "African like " which was positive feedback. The reaction was also "The sound gave off a heartbeat feel which worked well". This also helped positively. For improvements we were told to make sure the levels of instruments and vocals worked well together. This was due to the vocals being to low. Weakness' were that this was the first week and therefore we were trying to figure out the capability of the vocals compared go the area we were working with and instrumentation wise.

However strengths were that as a group we established a style quickly and therefore it was easier to figure out what were performing. As a group everyone had a part. People were incorporated in making decisions in the order and throwing ideas around to see which applied best and the result was as shown.
