  • What was your family like growing up? 
  • Can you remember how you celebrated birthdays or holidays over the years? 
  • Who visited your parent teacher conferences or took you to the doctor for physicals when you were a child?
    • For the average person this role was fulfilled by the same people. If you have a memory bank of events and relationships with the same family over the course of your life, consider this a blessing.

    Have you ever stopped to think about how this has contributed to the person you are today? I have. Neither me nor my family was perfect,  but there is something to be said about the influence of family (good or bad, present, or absent, one or several) on our lives.

    Imagine having several people, strangers, assuming the responsibility of mom and dad. This family does things 'this' way and another family does thing 'that' way. 

    I am someone who was once on the verge of being a foster child. I was fortunate that I had family to permanently take care of me. Many other young people do not share this same testimony.

    Because until you have lived the life of a foster child in the system, you have NO IDEA of how it feels, what it means, and what it takes to be resilient in young adulthood.
