Was a very valuable Fort during the times of the Seven Years' War. Multiple battles were fought there over the course of the war.
Originally the Fort was built by the French. The governor of New France, Marquis Duquesne, sent a French military team to build the Fort in 1754 near modern-day Pittsburgh Pennsylvania in the U.S. (1)
It was a strategic spot to build it because it was built at the spot where three rivers met and allowed the French to control passage of the rivers. This is why the British wanted to take it.

The British tried to take the Fort many times. George Washington (Future first president of the U.S.) was even sent early in the war to drive out the French.
Because the French were allied with many First Nations tribes they were able to maintain possession of the Fort.

Eventually the Seven Years' War started to turn in favour of the British. They finally succeeded in capturing the Fort in 1758.
6000 British troops were led by General John Forbes. They attacked under cover of darkness and defeated the French and burned the Fort to the ground. (2)
They quickly rebuilt the Fort and named it Fort Pitt (this would later become Pittsburgh).
