Website #1: Desperate Canadian businesses seek changes to temporary foreign worker program

The shortage in workers for the meat-packing industry can heavily affect the supply curve of meat products produced in Canada. Meat products is one of Canada's biggest exports valued at around $2.2 billion in 2015 and the shortage of employees will negatively affect the suppliers. One of them is Sunterra Farms pork processing plant located in Alberta that relies on temporary foreign workers but due to a series of restrictions enacted between 2011 to 2014, the flow of migrant workers has slowed. The inability to properly supply the demand at home and abroad will force the price of Canadian meat-products to increase.

The head of the dairy farmers of Ontario (DFO) recently admitted to have been dumping gluts of skim milk in order to combat low prices. The high demand of butter and cream has resulted in a large quantity of skim milk which has a much lower demand to be dumped in lagoons or added in animal feed. This can negatively affect the dairy industry because the price of related goods will decrease lowering profit. The most interesting part of this article is the Industries strategy to maintain their supply curve by throwing away unwanted related products.

Supply management is a truly made Canadian system that maintains equal stability for the market in consumers and for the suppliers to guarantee access to good-quality products. This system is prominently used for the egg, dairy and poultry farming. The determinant for this system are the suppliers and input prices. The suppliers using this kind of system are well benefited to carefully maintain the supply curve in order to produce the best and well-priced products on the market. Input prices for the production of eggs, dairy and poultry products are relatively low making products affordable and benefits the farmer's profit.

The average cost of a home in Toronto climbed by 20% September over the same month last year due to the increasing sales of Toronto homes. This is a result of supply decreasing in the curve and prices increasing as supply shrinks over time. This is an example of input as the price increases while the supply dwindles.

The determinants to this situation are subsidies because the price of oil has lowered due to low demand in major countries such as China and the US resulting in a very large supply. Another determinant would be input prices because as the cost of production lowers, the supply increases as well as profitability, many countries such as the US is increasing production and fracking while Iran and other middle eastern countries are increasing their supply.
