It follows Mei, a young Taiwanese-American woman, on a journey of self-discovery while navigating complex relationships and the difficulties of embracing her mixed ethnicity. Chou depicts the problems Mei faces in discovering her sense of belonging and identity in the world through inconsistent memories and powerful visuals.
