Can you imagine if you came from a different family structure than you do today? Everyone's family make up is different and that is what makes us all unique. The story digs into life with two moms and how a family is really just a group of people that love each other unconditionally no matter the gender or guardian figure.<br><strong>Teaching Idea:</strong> Doing projects on family structures can be very important because it is great for students to know that not everyone comes from the typical traditional family structure. Most students families are not considered "traditional" so they need to be aware that it isn't&nbsp;<br>just them, there are many many others that come from other structures.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div><strong>Teaser:</strong> Not everyone knows all the different shapes and forms that families come in. Take a look at this video and see how all families are so special and unique to one another. <br><strong>Teaching Idea:</strong> This video gave me a cool idea where I could have my future class remake a video like this but with a picture of their own families. I could have each student turn in a picture of their family or who they consider to be family and I could put together a video and the class could watch it to see how some families are similar to others and others are different or unique.&nbsp;</div>]]></description>

By doing a family reflection, it allows for the student to write in their own words who they consider to be family whether that is their mom or dad or aunt and uncle, or grandma and grandpa.&nbsp; Everyone has a different view on family so we should let the students express their own view.&nbsp;<br><br></div>]]></description>

Something I could have the students&nbsp;<br>do is draw a house and then draw a picture of the people that live in that house.&nbsp; this will then allow the students to talk about who they live under the same roof with.&nbsp;<br><br></div>]]></description>

This book does a wonderful job of putting the death of a loved one in very loving terms and explaining that it happens to more than just you (the person going through it) and although times are tough, your loved one will always love you and be with you. <br><strong>Teaching Idea:</strong> Although this is a tough subject for many, instead of having the students relate to this personally we could just talk about how some people lose loved ones so that may be a reason that they don't have a mom or a dad in their life and mainly turn this into a class discussion rather than a project. This video can help students hear about families that are different than their own. One teaching idea would be, after we are done watching the video, i can have the students make a list together as a class about all the different family structures they saw in the video. It is important for our students to know that people are not the only ones who have families. There are dog families, wild animal families, fish families, and many more.
