In this world today I think that we have eased up on gender issues with voting and jobs etc... but I still think that there are gender problems around the world. I sometimes if not all the time think that women are looked more down upon then men are and are not seen as strong but at the same time I think that men have there own problems also. Just because your a man or a women does not mean that you should be seen differently than others you cannot help if you was born a boy or a girl. A few times in the piece she referred to the girls father and how she should properly tend to him, and other men for that matter. When reading the lines about her changing and washing her dirty clothes, I think that her mother is a very religious woman who disapproves of her daughter becoming a women due to her recent period. The entire poem seems to be a list of things to do in order to not be classified as a slut, although the mother believes will become one anyway. She even inserted some tips on how to make medicine for an abortion, implying that she will absolutely get pregnant. She seems to genuinely believe that the start of women hood leads to other woman like things that will mold her into the slut she will one day become. Even after all of this, one particular section struck me deeply. The mother includes the proper ways to care for a man, or husband, and if these things didn't work she could always attempt to do other things, however do not be upset for giving up. She clearly wants her to focus on the love but what does she mean by other things? Could that possibly mean sexual things?
