Sarnia is a small town (73000 people) in Southwestern Ontario. We are on the St. Clair River and Lake Huron. We are a border town with Port Huron, Michigan. I love living here especially during the summer due to the waterfront locations to hang out and what is better than fries under the bridge (Bluewater Bridge)! Some of the social issues here include a large gap between the haves and have-nots. Jobs are either well paying in Chemical Valley or menial labor at minimum wage.

Manotick is very small, but not the smallest town I've been to. It is east of Downtown Ottawa and has a population of about 4,520 people. It's not very exciting to live in because I actually like just outside of it and still have to get a ride into town, but all my friends live there. However, I love going there all the time in the summer because you can walk pretty much anywhere and they have a Tim Hortons and I'm addicted to coffee. The social issues are fairly typical, however we have a low homelessness rate. We do have the typical lack of jobs sometimes (mostly for the younger people), but our death and crime rate are low. So yeah, thats my little town I guess.

Brighton is a small town with about 11,000 people. Brighton is a cute little town, our biggest attraction is Applefest. Since Brighton is known for its farming, we have a festival on main street the last weekend of every September. Because I work at a farmer's market, I'm always working on Applefest so I don't get to go downtown to see it but it's still my favourite holiday. A social issue in my town is the amount of elderly people. Brighton has an unusual amount of seniors in our town who live in retirement homes. We only have two in Brighton, both very small. It is hard to accommodate these people in our town.

Dundas is a small town with about 20,000 people. It is technically part of Hamilton, ON but we try to hold onto our independence as much as we can! Some social issues that occur in our town is the controversy over the amalgamation of the high schools, the restrictions on the filming industry and the future of Parkside High School. The best part of Dundas is in my opinion is the small town feel that our downtown provides. It has many little independent businesses that keep the citizens interested.

Ridgetown is a very small town in Southwestern Ontario. It has about 3,250 people in it .We are about 25 minutes to Chatham (if you know where Chatham is.) It is the heart of Chatham-Kent’s agricultural sector. Some social issues are that some churches refuse to change the way they run there church like the worship music they use. Another social issue is that there is not enough jobs to keep people in the town The thing I like about my town is that all my friends go to the same school I do.

Windsor is a City, not big like Toronto but not small like Chatham. There are about 210,890 people that live in Windsor but do not let the large number trick you because almost everyone knows or has heard about one another. Windsor is right across the border from Detroit so many people associate the crime rates and issues Detroit has with Windsor. Let me make this clear, yes Windsor has its ups and down but it is not a horrible city to live in. Windsor has one of the lowest murder rates in Canada and we have gone months and months without any murders at all so living across from Detroit isn’t that bad. We lack jobs like no tomorrow though LOL. I love living in Windsor because its minutes away from a different country. I love going to the states because it is such a different environment yet I’m only like 10 minutes away from home. Plus shopping in the states is 1000 times better then shopping in Canada!

Dunnville, Ontario

Dunnville is a little town, about an hour's drive from Hamilton, Ontario. 5,800 people live in Dunnville, and my high school- Dunnville Secondary School- is the only high school in my town. It has around 400 kids who attend. In Dunnville we have a big festival called Mudcat Festival that is held in June. Every year, an estimated 60 000 people attend, so its kind of a big deal. My favourite part of The Mudcat Festival are the fireworks display. The best I have EVER seen. A social issue that occurs in my town is the fact that there is nothing for the youth of the town to do. In other towns or cities they have a YMCA with an indoor pool. Or a bowling alley, or movie theatre. In Dunnville we do have a bowling alley but its not in the most local spot, and its also a bar. I think that it is important for the teenagers and young people of the community to have something they can do because if they don't, there isn't anything stopping them from getting into trouble. If they are bored they will either resort to substance abuse, or driving around bored, perhaps reckless. I can vouch for the young people in my town, because i am one, and i will say, I LOVE Dunnville, but theres absolutely nothing to do.

Delhi is a small town in Norfolk County with a population of around 5,000 people. Delhi is known for being a tobacco town because many farmers grew tobacco as a main source of income throughout the years. There is only one high school in Delhi, that have around 600 kids from the surrounding areas. Delhi is a tight knit community and when you walk down the street you are bound to run into someone you know! One of the main social issues in our town is the lack of law enforcement in our area. There are no ride programs to prohibit drinking and driving and there are higher crime rates because there are rarely any police in the area. Since there are not a lot of youth programs, lots of kids get into trouble because of boredom. This leads to lots of stealing, vandalism and overall bad behaviour. One great thing about the community is how supportive they are of our high school. You can always count on members of the community to tune in to any of our Raider Athletic games!

We have a population of about 5,000 people with two elementary schools and one high school. We have a population of about 150,000, and have smaller communities within, for example, I live in Barrhaven, which is within Nepean. Some social issues we have here are drug and alcohol problems. Some of the great things about Nepean are how we come together as a community, and like to participate in local events, like charity and other organized events.
