Parents should spend time with their children, encourage them to play in sports and get involved in youth teams. For example a parent who enrolls their child in little league baseball can help their self-esteem. The child can learn social skills with other kids. He/She can learn the success and failures just by playing on a sports team. They can learn social skills when interacting with other teammates.
The parent can step in and help their child understand how to deal with failure. For example, a father and son can play a game of catch and this can be a way in which the parent spends time and encourages their child.

Parents need to express love to their children at the early stages. Parents need to encourage positive self-esteem for kids. In order to develop good self-esteem for children, parents need to listen, give positive feedback and be more accepting. For example when your child is feeling sad or depressed because something happened in school you have to give them postive advice on how to deal with these issues.

As your children get older they will go through changes. For example in high school a child might feel depressed or anxious about college. They might be overwhelmed by doing college applications and might have doubts about the enrollment requirements. This is when the parent steps in and becomes involved by visiting colleges with their son or daughter. This is also a great way to bond with their child. This can help their self-esteem especially during this time when the child is uncertain about life after high school.
