FINAL RESPONSE

I think that the lesson in the book The Tiger Rising by Kate Dicamillo is that you have to express your feelings to get over them. I think this because in the beginning, Rob, whenever he thought about his mother, he felt a rush of sadness and locked it or any other thought in his mental trunk where he hid away his feelings about personal things. During the latter part the story, he told Sistine about his Mom, and he had never told anyone about her before. He told Sistine that his Mom's name was named Caroline, and that she died from cancer. Then, whenever he thought about his mom after that, he didn't feel so sad. Sistine also had to learn this lesson. She realized that she has to show her feelings to get over them when she told Rob that she missed her father and was sad that her father had to leave her. After she let herself cry and expressed her feelings, she realized that her father was not coming to get her and she had to accept that she could not always have what she wanted. She could stop being angry and physically and emotionally harming people all the time after that. Another example is that Rob's dad, who also felt sad about his wife and would not show his emotions. Once he told Rob about his feelings, he started accepting that his wife was gone and that he had to do what he could without her. By the end of the book, he could start singing the songs again that he only sang when she was alive, like the song about mining for gold. He is also able to say her name once again. I think people need to express their feelings so that they can get over them and move on.

the main lesson of this story is opening up your thoughts and letting go and expressing them. before rob didn't say much but then he stared to let things go like telling sistine about the tiger and his mom.
