My name is Betul, I am working at METU as an instructor and I am helping Serap hoca for this project. I could not join the sessions on Wednesday morning (although I wished a lot) since I have been teaching. However, I would like to join the next sessions as much as possible and I am looking forward for the outcomes of this course for METU national and international students; as well as the youth assembly of Ankara Kent Konseyi. I worked in International Cooperations Office at METU and I observed that most of the incoming international students did not have good communication with local youth outside campus. Therefore, I am so excited for this project and hope that all participants will have great time!

We met at 8.30 at Devrim and we went to Çatı for breakfast. We had a chance to have a conversation on different topics about so many things like our culture, foods, Iranian movies, Turkish singers which take place at METU spring festival, our hometowns, personal lives and our plans for the future. For example Pardis told us about Iranian cuisines, spices, local vegatables. Melike told us about her hometown, Nevşehir, she recommended us to visit Kapadokya especially.

We met at Metu Kocatepe Coffee House. It was a valuable experience for me to share different cultural elements. We talked about books, movies, foods, traditional clothes, and the general structure of cultural symbols of different countries. After that, when we shared these cultural elements, one of our friends from Nigeria came near us and we talked about some cultural foods of Nigeria, and it was an enjoyable and great time for me. In addition to this, we talked about how to differ or similar these cultural elements from our cultures, and we made enjoyable comparisons. Thank you for this type of opportunity, it was great😊

As the fifth group, we met on 1 June at the ODTÜ Çatı Cafe. The main theme of our meeting was Turkish food and the Russian education system, as well as a presentation about Turkish music. Apart from these issues, the similarities and differences of cultures were discussed with many different questions. This event, which we enjoyed, socialized, learned, gained new achievements in terms of cultural competence, engaged in activities in out-of-school learning environments, and was a good experience for me and I think for my friends.

We, group 7 members, met at Çatı Cafe on June 8. We started our meeting by having breakfast and drinking tea. Before discussing our topic, food and music, we shared and discussed our thoughts about different subjects such as feminism. Our discussion of food and music began with a presentation about the evolution of Egyptian music by our friend Belal. Evolution of music in the Turkish, Egyptian, and Palestinian cultures were discussed. We listened to a variety of music throughout and were introduced to many important figures of music throughout history. We later had a walk through campus while discussing food culture and famous cuisines by each member. It was an enjoyable experience that gave us a chance to recognize different cultural elements and thoughts while also practicing intercultural competence skills.

We got together as the fourth group at Kent Konseyi in Ankara and talked about the Comparative Family Relations in Turkey and Kyrgyzstan. In addition to that, we had a fruitful time talking about various issues concerning the politics, culture, traditions, and social standards of life of both countries. Collaborating with all the members and having conversations about even the most controversial topics was a pleasure for me.

We gathered outside of the campus on 8th of June. The main theme of out meeting was cuisine of our hometowns, which are Denizli, Konya and İzmir. We had a good time socialising and discussing the differences in food culture as well as sharing hilarious memories of our pets :)
