Simon Sinek says: as professionals we know very well WHAT we do. We also know HOW to do what we do. However, it is rare that we know WHY we do it. Finding your personal WHY makes all the difference in the way we work and live.
My personal WHY is to take teachers away from their daily lives and help them to experience the beauty of the world with its people, nature and different way of living. I hope that they become happier and more open hearted persons who care more about others around them.
This session proved that the best way of learning is through real experiences and not through distance learning. It seems we all enriched ourselves being together.

First I like to underline that it is a privilege to participate in another course of Rita in Guadeloupe. Of course, I have to admit that the places you stay is like paradise and you feel like in holiday time. That’s one basic to learn: No stress und and a nice and calm atmosphere combined with an fantastic and completed different landscape with his inhabitants living differently than me. We have already enough stress in our daily life time routine. It is important to realise it and to focus on the main aspects. But that’s not the reason to come back to this course. It is because of the perfect organisation and the brilliant impressions you get. Tanks to Rita you get so much ideas for your own work und even private life, also concerning the way you live. Looking the vulnerable nature and environment it is important that we think about our own life that it is more sustainable. The exotic pictures will help to be focused on this part too.

So it is important to experience the cultural way directly at the people. It is absolutely necessary to combine theoretical aspects with the need to feel and observe in the place you are. This is the right way to raise students interest.

Another aspect is to encourage the pupil as our teacher in handcrafts (production of a bowl out of one coconut tree leaf) did with me. You have to outline the strength and not just to emphasise the weakness.

So, like the last time, when I come back to my home I have some new ideas in mind which I will note and try to implement in my work.

At the end I have to say thank you that it is possible to join your program and you as a person with interesting points of view to discuss. Hope to see you soon.

Stefan

Now, in the writing moment: sitting in the hall to get some poor wifi ( and using just one finger on the phone) and just finished my presentation - it is stopping me to say all what I have in my mind and heart. I wrote it down in papers and I will share it in a few hours. And when i am home I can write it down on the computer.
But, my learning and experience of these days had put Guadeloupe in my body, joining India and Guatemala. That is my cliffhanger until we meet for the last (?) Time.

Most importantly, I would like to express my deeply felt gratitude for your great course I have enjoyed very much. Since there was a very positive and productive atmosphere, there were very many things to learn, take home and spread among others.

The following statements, thoughts and ideas are meant to briefly sum up what I have already written in my daily reflections on what I have learnt on the respective days.

In this course, I have learnt that there are very effective and different ways to teach children and adults both important and useful lessons on subjects that are usually not part of the common school curricula.

This is particularly true of teaching various cultural aspects of both tangible and intangible cultural heritage such as music (singing kreole songs / playing the drum), story-telling (teaching kreole stories of how Guadeloupe was created), craftsmanship (making bowls or hats out of coconut leaves), food (kassave breads) and nature (disappearing islands and mangroves) etc.

Summing up, I have been a student and a teacher in this course at the same time which was great because I have learnt new and fascinating things in the ‘subjects’ mentioned above that have enriched my personality as an individual and teacher. Thus, I do hope to manage to pass on some of these things to the people dear to me (family and friends) and the people at school (students and colleagues).

Maximas gratias vobis ago! :) (Thank you very much! :))

I have learned a lot from this course, for example how proud you can be when you do your own hat. I have always been interested in what lies behind different expressions and behaviour and now I have a broader and deeper understanding about it because the meaning of culture is not just one artefact or expression- it is more though it runs thru history into the future, and that it is very important to feel proud of who you are in this moment, not only what you are capable of doing but also your cultural heritage and what have shaped the society and you as a person. If we understand this we will feel more secure and thus be more open to "the others". instead of let the differences threaten us. thank you Rita for your excellent guiding into a part of the Guadeloupian culture, and thanks for the laughs we shared Germany.
