It’s a horrible tragedy doing on in the world right now. People are being separated from their families in order to survive, having to migrate into different countries, and their land is being destroyed. Not knowing what the future held, I was excited because we were getting 2 extra weeks off of school. Then we found out that we were getting an additional week off not long after the first announcement. Still, I was ecstatic about the fact that I would be able to be with my friends instead of taking tests. Soon, it was announced that we weren’t going to be able to come back to school at all that year.  That’s when reality hit me. I realized that since I was moving schools the next year, I wouldn’t get to say goodbye to the kids that I grew up with and spent years in class with, plus the friends I made that year. It sent me into a depression and I felt completely isolated. At first I thought covid was just a silly flu-like bug going around, but then I realized it would take many lives and change many people. I can’t speak for others, but I know that I could’ve never guessed that the coronavirus would end up like it did. One of the major things that I realized is that we have so many freedoms that can be taken away at any point in time. For example, simple things like going on walks or going to the mall were looked at as a luxury at the peak of COVID-19. It made me appreciate being able to go out as much as I used to and I no longer take the little experiences for granted. COVID also helped me realize that many of the people that I interact with on a daily basis are friends just because I saw them everyday. It showed who I could count on and who I should be a little less open with. Not being close with many people is not a bad thing, but I just found who I am closest with. In addition, I also learned many ways that I can deal with my stress. This isolated time heightened my anxiety and I needed to find outlets that could help. I found that listening to music and blocking out the world around me helps me drift away from Earth and temporarily throw away my problems.
