The orchestra is called Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra who are collaborating with each other online to produce a musical piece. The piece first starts with a single cello, so the texture of the music is thin due to the lack of instruments playing. The dynamics soon change and we are then able to listen to the music gradually getting louder (musical term: crescendo). The tempo of the music steadily becomes faster as more instruments join in. Near the end of the video, singing voices can be faintly heard over the music.

The people in the orchestra don't speak English in this video which may suggest they come from a country other than Australia. There are 18 people playing instruments.

The beginning starts with the main melody with the double bass. Then the cellos join with a similar variation with different pitch, and the same for violins. The bassoon joins, with the clarinets soon after. Around halfway, the flutes join in creating a wider pitch range in the music, and the whole orchestra has joined. The tempo has grown a little when the instruments steadily joined. The music ends with a flourish. The piece is based on the tune 'Ode to Joy', 1785, composed before Beethoven, and as heard in the choral symphony, the most part that we hear (I think the video was just a 3 minute excerpt of the actual time, 70 minute), is just variations of it layered by different instruments as they join in, starting low with the double bass and later on adding instruments with higher pitch such as the violins and flutes.

It has a very large range of instruments and they are all playing in time with each other. They are often in different keys but, they come together to make one sound. Orchestra's have to listen to each other so that they can be one sound. Orchestras also often have a selection of strings, brass, woodwind and percussion. In this case they have strings, brass and woodwind.

On orchester is a group of people who play different instruments in groups. They play a song with the different types of instruments they have. Normally it is sectioned into percussion, strings, brass, and woodwing. Each sections has different types of that family. For example, a string section has violins, violas, cellos and sometimes a double bass. These instruments have different parts of a song resulting in texture of the peice. They normally play in a pit next to the stage in plays and musicals, but when performing are on stage circled around the conductor.
