The mob stripped him of his clothes and then tarred and feathered him before stealing his horse and leaving him in the forest. Johnson recognized two men in the mob. He filed a complaint and warrants were issued. A cattle driver named John Connor was sent to deliver the warrants, and he suffered the same fate as Johnson. He was tied to a tree in the woods for 5 hours before being discovered.
