Dead zones are hypoxic ( low --oxygen) areas in the world oceans and large lakes, by excessive nutrients pollution from human activity.
The cause of fertilizer enrichment from agriculture activity and waste water causes a growth in algae ,making the water impenetrable to sunlight causing a lack of oxygen in the water. Makes water ihabitable to live in for aquatic species hince the name dead zones

Low oxygen zones appear naturally in nature and can take place anywhere in the country , but human activity has enhanced the creation and effects of dead zones. Nutrient enrichment from surrounding states along the Mississippi River due to agriculture production release toxic chemicals such as nitrogen and phosphorus . Most dead zones particularly occur along the east coast, Gulf of mexico, and Great Lakes but the biggest dead zone as of now is the Gulf of Mexico dead zone.
