There is a need for belonging and connection in community that correlates to learning. Healthy relationships provide a network of motivation and support for the student.<br><br><strong>Turning Point 8</strong> (A Safe and Healthy School Environment):<br>It's important to be aware of the warning signs of bullying so that we can point students to solutions, such as peer mediation and conflict resolution. A supportive school community fosters the learning process; bullying hinders learning.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>The <mark>Warning Signs</mark> Terry shows in this scene:<br>-Conflict between Douglas and Terry while they are sitting in class.<br>-If a student frequently asks to leave class (go to the nurse), this could be a warning sign of bullying.<br>-The nurse finds bruises on Terry that do not match his explanation for them.<br><br>The Teacher could have:<br>-Been more aware of what was happening in the back of the class.<br>-Asked Terry if there was anything wrong if he frequently asked to leave class.<br>-Moved Terry away from Douglas.<br>- <strong>TURNING POINT 6: </strong>Relationships with teachers matter to the student. If the teacher had paid more attention to his class and gotten to know Terry on some kind of a personal level, perhaps Terry have told him about what was going on.<br><br>The Nurse could have:<br>-Asked Terry how school was going and how his relationships with classmates were.<br>-Told Terry's teacher or parent about the bruises and told them to keep an eye on him.</div>]]></description>
