Some of these include the fact that it is impolite to point because chopsticks are considered an extension of your fingers. Chopsticks were started by China and eventually spread throughought Asia in as little as 200 years. It was first used only to cook foods, but was later used to eat. It is also bad table etiquette to stick chopsticks standing up in rice, because it looks like incense in the food, which is only for the deceased.

In Chinese culture, they place the napkins underneath their plates instead of on their laps. People at the dining table are also dissuaded from stabbing their chopsticks in the center of their food vertically. This can be linked to incense which is typically used during funerals. On the topic of chopsticks, this is also something unique to Asian cultures. Instead of using a fork, the Chinese will use two sticks. Deciding to use two sticks instead of a conventional eating utensil is rooted in tradition.

https://drive.google.com/open?id=1AIR7dI1DFJzOmRyrdk35WRTFZIsmvBnY

When ordering you should order in variety and in an even number because an odd number isn’t meant for funeral meals. It is also polite to pour tea for those around you, placing your left hand on the cap and holding it with your right.

I learned that In American dining, characteristics are more so focused on the table; correct utensil use, food consumption, and body language whereas, Chinese table mannerisms are a lot more intricate. Appealing more to a rank system, Chinese dining has a lot to do with who the guest of honor is, where he or she sits, and how gratitude is shown. All of the manors in China have historical background which I think is really interesting. https://youtu.be/jkyE2rPac3s

It is very important for people to recognize the high honor and respect that the host and elderly people have at the dinner table, which is why you must wait for them to sit down first and eat before you can do it. If you fail to follow this rule, you could end up embarrassing not only yourself, but your family as well.

I learned that there are two types of Chinese cooking styles: boiling and braising. Boiling includes Hot Pot which was created over 10, 000 years ago. In this type of cooking style, you place multiple items of foods in a boiling pot of water at a high temperature. On the other hand, braising was adopted by the Chinese and taken from the French. In this process, you place a certain amount and variety of food into a boiling pot of water at a lower temperature.
