North Korea and South Korea were one whole state until North Korea wanted to be a communist state. After the Korean War, North Korea became fully communist. Communism is when the government controls everything including the people. North Koreans have no freedom of movement, speech, religion, and information. They are forced to take care of the Kim leaders’ needs. They learn from nursery school to memorize the history of the Kim family, teaching them myths about the family. Koreans experience extreme food shortages which causes many health problems to the population.

If someone in a family in North Korea commits a crime, the government sends the person’s entire family to prison camps.
Sometimes children are even born in the camps and raised as prisoners. While in the prison camps, forced labor, brutal beatings, and death are all usual occurrences. The government in North Korea refuses to acknowledge the existence of these camps. Public executions occur when citizens have been accused of a variety of crimes. The entire community, including children, are forced to watch causing fear amongst them.

The people are living with fear all throughout their lives. Health problems are at a high because of food shortages and stress. They can’t leave the country without state permission. Half of North Korea’s population live under extreme poverty conditions.

The United States has given North Korea one million dollars towards humanitarian aid. International aid organizations responded immediately after North Korea got hit by Typhoon Lionrock. The U.S. gave $1.3 billion in assisting food aid and energy assistance between 1995-2008. The U.S. also provided relief items such as medical supplies to North Korean flood victims.

North Korea really needs to change the government because it barely gives their citizens freedom what so ever. People in North Korea live terrible lives because of this. North Korea's form of government should change completely so that the people could be happier. North Korea could change drastically if the people were treated fair, and given rights of protection. The state should be ran by the people and should not govern itself.

Our role should be helping other states from their terrible government forms. The U.S constantly gets involved in other countries conflicts as to support the people from the dangerous government. The U.S has a moral obligation to oppose oppressive governments. The United States should continue doing this as other people aren’t as fortunate and don’t get the help that they need with these governments. U.S opinion in conflicts is crucial.
