Questions to Respond to. Please respond to each, using each question as a subheading:

1. What was your initial response to this project? How did you and your group get started?
Our initial response to the task was to read through the play first, so that everybody in the group had a good understanding of the play, and as to how we can all contribute towards writing the Script. After that we then began to cast everyone to their roles. We thought this would be a good start, because then everybody would be able to work on their own character in their own time as well as get a better understanding of the play.

2. What research did you conduct into this style of performance and how did you apply this in the creation of your work?
The research we conducted was mainly by watching a lot of children's TV shows and children's play see how they act and interact with the audience, and keep the audience engaged and locked into their performance. We also read up on techniques on how to keep them engaged because it is important that when the children are watching the play they are both entertained and interested in what's going on as they can easily get bored.

3. What obstacles did you come up against and how did you overcome them?
There are lot of big egos in our group so disagreeing caused a lot of problems at times. The best way we overcame this was by trying out everyone's idea and saw which one fit best within the play. Another obstacle was our slow start within our group. We were behind to begin with because we did have a lot of procrastination going on inside of the group (I myself is included) however we overcame this by abiding to the contract that we set earlier which caused us to focus up and catch up with the rest of our peers in the class.

4. What have you learned about creating original work from scratch?
One thing I learned from creating original work from scratch is that is not as simple as it seems. Although that there is the template there for us to take ideas from, condensing it down into a 20 minutes of is not easy as there is alot of content that you need to cut out in order to make the play flow well that feeling that there's any gaps within the play itself. I have also learnt that is easier to work in a group and it is to work alone due to the fact that there are more ideas to bounce off of and influences how you work. By working alone it limits you because you are just left with your own ideas which sometimes aren't always the best.

5. What have you learned about working with this age group?
Something about working with this age group is that everybody can easily get offended (including me) another thing about age group is that everybody has a lot of different ideas and how to do things this is both a good and bad thing because a lot of discussions and disputes can be raised. However also means that we have a wider range of ideas to use from and to draw from in order to make the play the best it can be.

6. Overall, from a personal and group perspective, how successful was your work against the company mission and objectives you agreed at the start of the process?
Overall my personal perspective is that, despite the fact that one of our group members had left us on the day of performance I would say that we were still successful in the fact that we managed to overcome such a curveball thrown at us at the very last second. Due to the fact that we were able to overcome this problem in a matter of hours and still put out at our best ability shows me that we were still successful in the fact that we didn't let a problem so drastic stop us from doing our performance. From a overall point of view I would say that we weren't as successful as we wanted to be due to the fact that there was a lot of tension and arguments going on within our group which cause us to have a low morale a lot of the time and not give a 100% effort because of this I think that we could have been more successful because if we had given a 100% all the time we probably wouldn't have had a missing member at the very end and would have been able to perform it to our very best ability.

In this lesson we had to discuss the story of our play which we just read and then began to condense our play down into 4 key moments to summarise for thw whole class.
This was helpful becuase it gave our group and good idea of that things that were essntial to to play and what needed to be included. This gave us good progress because we began to understand the story better due to the fact we were not all too familiar on the story itself.

The reason as to why this was very helpful was because it allowed me to understand how Hansel moves and brought me into a mindset which fully allows me to become Hansel.

This lesson was similar to Stephen's lesson in a way where we worked on our characterisation but it was more to do with the voice and how we speak, this was helpful because Hansel is a young boy (No older than 10) and for him to have a deep voice wouldnt allow the audience to suspend their belief. As a result I had to slightly change the tone in my voice to match the character description of Hansel.

In this lesson Neil showed us way in which could assist in us captivating the young audience without having to sound condecending. This was extremely helpful because the main basis was to have many moments of comedy or high energy to keep the children from easily getting bored, it was also helpful because it meant that by cutting down how much we spoke to bore the kids made it easier to structure the script without having to make it so we'd have to memorise blocks of lines. Another way this helped was through having bigger actions we managed to thoroughly show whar is going on in the scene/play to make the kids fully understand what's going on.

We decided to take a more technical approach this lesson by working on set design, costume and music. This lesson helped because we were creating the world of the play and what it looked like. Setting is one of the most important things when it comes to childrens play becuase kids need to be able to see and understand what is going on because they arent very good at imagining just yet. By having cotsumes that completly outline what our characters are and what they look like can help associate what the characters stand for and how they act. By having music and background sounds it can help set the atmosphere in the scene and engage the children by having repeating sounds which help the kids associate the sound to the action.

In this lesson Stephen helped us with transitioning between scenes without it looking too choppy or without the play losing any form of momemtum, he told us that it would be best if no one walks off stage because that energy is lost when someone walks off stage, we decided to implement this in our play because if the energy has been lost it can easily disconnect us from the children and they could quickly lose interest. With this advice we made sure that when performing there was always a presence of other characters on stage and this especially helped with the narrator because they are constantly watching what is going on in the play.

In this lesson James helped our group on audience participation and how to not intimidate them and make them feel comfortable on coming up on stage with us. He also helped us on how we ensure that we explain the instructions clearly to the children so they understand what to do. This was helpful in our progression because we weren't making it very clear on what to do and when asking the audience for a response you would expect a response back but if there is a moment when the audience do not respond it can look very bad on the performer because it leaves both the performers and the audience very confused and could greatly shift the atmosphere of the play.

In this lesson Neil watched our play through entirely and gave us feedback on what we need to improve. One note was too make our actions bigger because we need to make sure we captivate our audience better as kids can get bored easily. He also told us that we need to make sure that we improve our characterisation and make our characters bigger and more bold to make sure that we fully convey our characters properly to the children.
