Can an escape room be educational?

If I try and produce something tackling all the neurodivergent students I might get a little lost on the focus of the project and it solely being about a somewhat educational and interactive/immersive experience for children/adults.

Creating an environment where my “display/show” thing can have intervals, time for movement, time for sitting, time to gather your own information and learn.

Symptoms of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder include a short attention span, constantly fidgeting and acting without thinking.

This will create movement and diversity in the educational techniques.

They teach and show you how people used to live in the olden days in the Black Country.

The actors enhance the learning and attention focus because it’s almost like you’ve gone back in time which is an odd concept for people to wrap there heads around.

It's not about transferring your skills onto others, it's about learning how they learn and utilising your knowledge to then apply that to your teaching methods.

Does this mean we make the game easier and have fewer interjoining clues or do we make this a lighthearted, keep the narrative and clues but not make the end goal the goal and more the experience the goal so they can be highly imaginative but not count of the execution of the game being perfect.

It is not advertised as an escape room but when you see the definition of "escape room", I did experience a "locked in" feeling and having to solve and answer some questions to fulfil the needs of the actors to allow us in the next room.

One thing I have taken away from this event was the lack of engagement in most of the rooms. There were, if I remember rightly, about 10 different rooms with an actor in each of them. Some rooms were really attention grabbing and some were just standing there and listening.

This was hard for me with my ADHD as I struggled to listen to verbal instructions or struggled paying attention to longwinded narrative telling. I just wanted to move and carry on.

One room can be claustrophobia inducing. When in the presence of a door or an "escape" route then they will feel less nervous and also feel encouraged to find clues.

Something to aid them in class. If I had a visual map instead of a book then I would feel more comfortable getting involved in lessons as I would know what was happening.

"blind" is represented by students with reading and focus difficulty and the journey they want to take is the learning. But if they can't drive a "car" because they are "blind" how will they make this journey of learning.

I looked at "We are Curious" down in Bristol and how they have a science centre for students and public to explore and learn through variations of science.

Couldn't find anything relatively similar for English literature but it also made me think about how a day trip would be relatively temporary for a student with ADHD because they wouldn't be able to re-visit easily and be able to retain the information learnt for them to then study at home. No matter how many notes they takes. This was a dead end in terms of research.

I love the fact I am lost in a sea of people and can't be noticed as an individual. I am part of a larger pool and go unnoticed.

I get engulfed in the atmosphere and most people will want alcohol and say they need a good drink when they are at a festival or concert but I get high of the atmosphere of the feeling. This is because the feeling of the music makes me feel relaxed and focused with no brain fog.

The negatives may be the waiting around, the end of the show and the unsatisfaction of not being close enough to feel that sense of I came to X show and touched X.

If, lets say I am doing an escape room with a guide, I am asked a question out of the very few people with me, I immediately face fear from my fear of criticism. This puts me on edge and not be fully engulfed in the experience because it is all I can think about.

What I do love about something more intimate, is if there isnt a guide, it means i can take my time of anything. For example a museum, not necessarily intimate, I like to look at certain things and go at my own pace and discover. The moment a guide is introduced I start to find myself panicking that they wont give me time to look and take in what i want and that they wont show me certain things that have caught my eye.
