City Mag Double Page Spread (RMC Media)-

This magazine is based around Sheffield City Centre and the places to eat, drink etc within it. This double page spread is based on a graphic artist and his work around the city where the magazine is being sold. This is evident in the image to text ratio of the double page spread. Due to the article having an artistic semantic field, images are a good convention to use because this draws in readers who also have an interest in art, graphics or photography. The bright colours seen within each image ties together and grabs the audience's attention, this will make the article stand out to a reader even if they are just flicking through the magazine. The images are of artwork that the artist has 'graffitied' on buildings, this changes the idea and negative connotations that people often associate with painting buildings.
The blue colours that are seen throughout the images within the article are brought out via the blue text utilised to draw attention to specific sections of text for example 'cover star', which is the main section of text in this article and acts as a title for the double page spread. The text used is large and somewhat abstract, this links in with the artistic theme of the article and catches the audience attention. The phrase cover star intrigues the audience increasing the likelihood of them reading it. In addition to this, the pull out quote is also in the same blue colour to tie in with the rest of the article. The purpose of making this quote stand out is to give the audience a feel of what the article is about and may feature. By doing this the audience are able to decide quickly if the article seems to be suitable for them to read which is convenient for the audience, therefore, providing a more pleasurable reading experience encouraging them to repurchase the magazine, because of these reasons I will make sure to use a pull out quote within my double page spread article on my own product.
This article is set out in question and answer format. This means that the article is easy for the audience to read and digest information. On top of this, it means that the readers are able to read small sections of the article if they wish to by selecting a question they wish to know the answer to and reading the interviewee's response. This will provide the reader with positive connotations due to the convenience of reading the magazine. As a result of these positive connotations, the audience will be more likely to repurchase issues of the magazine in the future. When creating my own product I will consider using questions and answers if possible to provide an enjoyable reading experience for my readers.

Cheshire Resident Double Page Spread-

Initially, as a reader, the main convention within this double page spread is the large image that takes up an entire page and more due to it being eye-catching and standing out from the text. In addition to the large main image of the article, there are two sub-images these images are colourful and all three tie in together which creates a theme for the article and attracts the audience to the double page spread. This article is based around the subject of art meaning that an image lead article is suitable for the audience of the article, those interested in art or wanting to learn more about art. As there is an artistic semantic field within this double page spread, it is suitable that the images used are eye catching and colourful, similarly to art.
The left page of this article is where the main content is written. This is presented in uniform columns. Within my own magazine I wish to use columns within my double page spread as I find it looks more professional creating luxurious connotations for readers who purchase my magazine. On top of this, the columns provide an easier reading experience for the audience as it allows the article to flow easily as this way of presenting an article is typically expected from a reader. Within these columns, the content is presented within a question and answer style. This is easy for the reader to digest due to its conversational friendly tone as if the audience are personally getting to know the artist. In addition to this, the question and answer layout will allow convenient reading for the audience. The reader is able to select parts which they wish to read from the questions that are easy to distinguish via the large bold text that they are written in. This convenience will provide the audience with a positive reading experience, therefore increasing the chances of having return buyers.
The title of this double page spread is an ambiguous statement. The ambiguity behind this will make the audience wonder what it really means and will, therefore, increase the likelihood of them reading the double page spread. In addition to this, the statement title is empowering which will provide the readers with powerful, ambitious connotations when reading. The title's text is bold therefore catching the audience attention and additionally making it easy for the audience to read. The two monotone colours that are seen within the title creates a contrast between the bright colours that are presented within the rest of the double page spread. This allows the audience's attention to be drawn to the title to encourage the readers to continue to read the whole article.
The text within the article is presented with a drop capital, which in this particular article is the large letter J. The purpose of drop capitals is not only to add an aesthetical appearance to the article but also to draw the audience's attention straight to the text which allows the readers to subconsciously begin reading the article and increases the chances of the audience reading the entire double page spread. Within my product's double page spread I fully intend on using a drop capital to open my double page spread text because of it's overall professional look and its ability to draw in readers to the article when they glance at the article
