Hunting is the human practice of killing legally wildlife or feral animals.

Poaching is the illegal taking of wildlife, in violation of local, state, federal, or international law. Poaching includes killing an animal out of season, without a licence, with a prohibited weapon or a prohibited manner such as jacklighting. Killing a protected species, exceeding one’s bag limit, or killing an animal while trespassing is also considered poaching. Illegal hunting poses a growing threat to animals ,mostly elephants and rhinos ,which is why most of the poaching takes place in Africa.

The cause of illegal hunting is the desire of rare animal products such as ivory and furs.

To stop hunting and poaching we can try to not feed the illegal market of wildlife animals.

There are also many agencies that try to stop it by inspect during the hunting period and organizing activities aimed at counteract poaching.

These agencies also widespread action against those regional hunting calendars that regularly attempt to increase the number of hunt able species or extend the hunting period.

Air pollution is a form of environmental pollution which is caused by the many gasses in our atmosphere like hydrocarbons and fossil fuels which modify the natural atmospheric characteristics. Industrial activities, energy production plants, intensive farming and traffic all cause dangerous effects on living beings (including humans) and the environment. There is more air pollution in big cities where industries are present, and they are characterized by an intense quantity of smog. Air pollution also causes the death of 2.1 to 4.21 million people every year, and 20% of premature deaths are part of these numbers.
However, how can we stop this? Governments are already finding new ways to limit air pollution, by limiting traffic intensity and dangerous gasses produced by industries.
But there are many things you can change in your everyday life, for example you could use public transport or travel by bicycle for your daily commute. A very common solution nowadays is carpooling, which consists in sharing your car with other people to limit the emissions produced.

A. Pecchiari, D. Newbould & S.

Desertification is the degradation by which a fertile land changes itself into a desert by losing its flora and fauna. In some areas, desertification can be influenced mainly by climatic factors; in others, especially the mild zones, this process is caused mainly by the actions of humans. Desertification reduces biodiversity and it prevents the possibility of life for humans, flora and fauna. The main causes are: intensive agriculture, deforestation, incorrect irrigation and excessive grazing.

To resolve desertification, we think that the governments have to make people more aware about this topic: they could dedicate a day to discover desertification (for example in schools). The governments could also fence off the desertified areas and invest on them/taking care of them. Instead, we as citizens could manifest in the streets to fight this climatic problem.

Deforestation is the international clearing of forested lands.Rainforests are disappearing at an alarmingly fast pace due to human development over the past few centuries.Humans cut down trees to acquire wood for construction in cities. Wood is also being cut down to make space for agricultural areas. We can firstly avoid supporting companies in charge of deforestation. We can also use paper that isn’t made from trees but from other materials like elephant waste. We can reduce plastic in our homes by using alternatives of the objects we use, made with biodegradable materials. The government can stop supporting this projects that can damage the enviroment like the Willow project in Alaska which is a project that uses harmful gasses for mining and finding recources. To send the message to the government we can either send an e-mail or we can start a local protest.

By Anghelina Birsanu,Martin Dimitrov and Mattia Fontecchi

Soil pollution is the introduction of harmful materials into the environment. These harmful materials are called pollutants and they can be natural or created by human activity. Pesticides and fertilizers from agricultural fields are blown by the wind and they can harm plants, animals, and sometimes people. Some fruits and vegetables absorb the pesticides that help them grow. When people consume the fruits and vegetables, the pesticides can cause cancer and other diseases.

The damages

Soil pollution affects humans' plants' and animals' health. Plants that are grown on polluted soil absorb most of the pollution and then become food, so even people absorb it. Living, working or playing in contaminated soil can lead to serious health problems. Soil pollution can decrease the fertility of the soil making land unsuitable for agriculture.

The causes

The discharge of Industrial waste into ground can cause soil pollution and affect the soil fertility. Disposal of plastics and other waste causes negative effects on the soil due to the presence of harmful chemicals. The use of pesticides and insecticides for a long period cause soil pollution and the chemicals in the pesticides pose health risks to humans. Acid rain is another cause of soil pollution; the polluted water of acid rain could dissolve the essential nutrients in the soil and change its structure. Soil pollution is also caused by Nuclear waste that lead to soil degradation.

Daniel Giugovaz, Anna Pecorari

health

Water pollution

Water pollution is a major problem that affects with oceans, seas, lakes, rivers and even with the water you drink, and it is dramatic if you think that water is 71% of Earth.

Water is an essential resource for humans, but also for all the other living beings just like animals and plants. We drink water because it keeps us alive, we use it to have a shower, to wash our belongings and even to cook food, but is it really worth to waste it?

People have been polluting water for years without thinking about the consequences, but the main point is that they haven’t stopped yet. Human activities contributes to water pollution. Chemicals and oils from factories are sometimes dumped or seeped into waterways. These chemicals are called runoff. There are also some natural sources of water pollution; oils and natural gasses, for example, can leak into oceans and lakes from natural underground saves. These sites are called petroleum.

Fish are additional victims of water pollution because they either end up dying from oil spills or end up eating plastic, plastic that we are also going to eat if we eat those fish.

In polluting the water, we put ourselves at risk by consuming it, actually, around 4000 children die every day from drinking dirty water.

Throwing a plastic bottle in the sea may not be like a big issue, but it is since it’s adding to the 5,300 billion pieces of trash.

Most of the rubbish is located in oceans. The Pacific Ocean records the name of the “most polluted ocean” with 2,481 billion of pieces of plastic.

However, the governments and international agencies have thought about some ways to stop water polluting, for example, Greenland replaced new oil and gas exploration with geysers, which are a sustainable energy. Spain started to invest in renewable energy sources, and the single-use plastic bags have been banned from California and Kenya.

Also the Harvard University has stopped investing in fossil fuels.

Still, what kind of resolutions can we adopt in our own lifes? According to the fact that everyone of us has an impact on the planet so it’s absolutely impossible to completely eliminate waste, there are some ways to reduce the quantity of pollution, one of these is to sort the rubbish, which then is going to be recycled. Everytime, consuming and producing new rubbish is a waste when we can simply use the same one. By doing this you contribute to reduce the quantity of plastic thrown away in lakes, rivers and seas.

Other solutions may be to use less disposable object and replacing them with more reusable objects and to promote eco-friendly agriculture by using less pesticides and fertilizers that can pollute the water through aquifers.

S.

The climate change is a long-term shift in global or regional climate patterns. Climate change could refer to a particular location or the planet as whole, also for example in some places where it has to snow, it doesn't and the weather is hotter than the usual.

The things that have caused climate change the most is: burning fossil fuels, cutting down forest and farming livestocks are increasingly influencing the climate and the earth's temperature, this adds amounts of greenhouse gases to these naturally occurring in the atmosphere, increasing the greenhouse effect and global warming.

climate change has several consequences that affect our planet and all living things. Rising temperatures lead to more extreme weather events like hurricane, drought and heatwaves. Melting ice caps and the rising sea levels threaten coastal areas and wildlife habitats. Change in rainfall patterns can impact agriculture and food production. Climate change also poses health risk by spreading diseases and making even worse the air quality.
