The Beatles formed in Liverpool, England in 1957 but they weren't called the Beatles just yet. They called themselves the "Quarrymen" and they weren't the Beatles that we know of today. The original members of the Quarrymen were the two founders John Lennon and Paul McCartney
Both of these young, talented musicians took inspiration from Buddy Holly and covered his song "That'll Be the Day". They also wrote a song inspired by Buddy Holly called "In Spite of All the Danger". Other inspirations include: Elvis Presley, Chuck Berry, and Little Richard. The "Big Ones" of the golden age of Rock and roll.

One year after John Lennon and Paul McCartney formed the Quarrymen, in 1978 they added young guitarists George Harrison, who was only 14 at the time, to the mix
Soon after this decision, they changed their name from the Quarrymen to "The Silver Beetles" and then finally "The Beatles" which happens to be a play on words. The members that made up The Beatles were John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Pete Best.

The Beatles started their career in Hamburg Germany where they would spend at least 6 hours in night clubs performing and had a 15 minute break each hour every night, and every night they would struggle to learn as many covers as they possibly could as well as their own music. This began as only a 48 day stay but extended to two years (1960 - 1962) because of this, they became a very tight band and experts when performing on stage.
Their first ever performance was at the India Club and then the Keiserkeller. Their music was very catchy and almost like bubblegum pop. The only difference is that it was more sophisticated.

In 1961, while The Beatles were performing in the Cavern Club, Brian Epstein saw The Beatles perform and decided to approach them. Brian Epstein was a record store owner that took a chance and offered the Beatles the chance to have him as their manager. They agreed and Brian Epstein was officially The Beatle's manager.
Mr. Epstein worked very quickly to get The Beatles on stage with better gigs and a good recording contract (which he accomplished) but before he could that, he needed to change their appearance. The Beatles, who once dressed in what we would call street clothes, began to dress up in matching suits and ties. Mr. Epstein's last item on the list was to get The Beatles on a record label. He first had them audition for Decca who did not take them, however, EMI accepted.

Now that The Beatles are on their way to the top, they needed some more help to get there. The most talented record producer in England, Sir George Martin, decided to work with the group and help them get the rest of the way to there. In fact, Martin stayed with the band their entire career.
The Beatles now have a manger to book great gigs and a producer to help with their sound. Its finally getting serious. George Martin wanted The Beatles at 110% and in order to do that big changes had to be made. Pete Best, the drummer for The Beatles, was replaced by Ringo Starr in 1962 because his superior drumming abilities.

Some of the top UK hits include: " I Want to Hold Your Hand", "From Me to You", and "She Loves You!". All these songs had one major theme in common with the lyrics. Love and relationship just like Teen Idols.
Speaking of number 1.

The Beatles have done it. They got a number one hit in the UK. It was time for them to head over to America and leave their mark.
When the Beatles arrived at JFK airport in 1964 they were bum rushed by hundreds of adoring fans each wanting to get as close as they could to the famous band. The next order of business was to get them signed to EMI's sister station Capitol Records. The only problem was that Capitol rejected them because they guaranteed that The Beatles would fail in America. But that didn't stop George Martin. He began to license some their singles to Indie companies.

No British band had ever made it big or even "made it" In America like The Beatles. No British band has ever grown as big of a fan base like The Beatles had. They had 30+ songs make the top 40 US hits twelve of which made it number 1. The Beatles literally did the impossible. And That's why they will forever leave their mark in the music world.
