The Romans founded the city, which they called Londinium, by the River Thames, where there was a small village. London has become a great city, but it has also suffered plagues; 1665, called the year of the Great Plague, the worst occurred. In 1666 there was the great fire that lasted four days. In 1863, the world's first subway went into service in London. Today the city has some of the most interesting buildings in the world.

Antonio Millet

Whitehall and Westminster

South of Trafalgar Square is a long road called Whitehall. Most of the buildings in this road are government offices. Walk down the road to Parliament Square and you go past Downing Street, the Prime Minister-the head of the British Government-lives at 10 Downing Street.
The houses date back to 1682. Sir George Downing built the street of houses, but nowadays, there are only four houses. After Whitehall comes Parliament Street and Parliament Square. Next comes St Margaret's Street with Westminster Abbey, London's oldest and most famous church.

English kings and queens always have their coronations here-from the time of William the Conqueror in 1066 to today in the twenty-first century.
Joan Santesmases

Parks and gardens

In London, people always visit the River Thames because you can see a lot of different things. You can see the river by boat or walk across the many bridges.

I knew that Shakespeare was important in England, but I didn't know that there is a theatre dedicated to him, The Globe Theatre.

The London Eye surprised me because it is very high and you can see the city. Near the river there is a tower that is the tallest office building in the city, it is 240 meters high.

I love nature and I like London because there are a lot of parks next to the river, where you can do a lot of different activities. You can go to the zoo, listen to music and watch Shakespeare's plays.

Roser Fonte
