In the Neolithie period the first inhabitant of Great Britain started the construction of Stonehenge.

We don't know exactly why or how it was built. It is about 4000-4500 years old.

The Celts

Between 1500 BC and 400 BC dating THE BRONZE OR THE IRON AGE, The celts came to England from Germany in boats. They were warriors and farmers and they used weapons and tools. They had fair red hair and blue eyes. The Celtic Language is still present in Ireland in Wales and in the Highlands of Scotland.

The Romans

In 55 BC the Romans invaded England. They were led by Julius Caesar. The Romans stayed for almost 400 years and they changed. They introduced new developments in agriculture, urbanization, industry, architecture and in language too, leaving a Latin legacy that is still evident in modern English. The Roman built roads, forts and founded several towns like London (Londinium). The emperor Hadrian built a wall (begun on AD 122 and known as HADRIAN’S WALL)

The Anglo-Saxon

In the 5^Century Britain was invaded by the Germanic tribes of Angels, Saxon and Jures. They came from Germany, Denmark and the Netherlands.They pushed the Britons towards Wales, Cornwall, Scotland and Ireland, where Celtic language are still spoken today.The Anglo-Saxon settled England and they became predominant. The name England itself means “The land of the Angels“.

The Vikings

From the 8^ Century, the Danes and Vikings from Scandinavia started a progressive conquest of England. They were great travellers and they conquered large parts of what is new England. By the 11^ century, the country was united under Alfred the Great, a Saxon king, who defeated the Danes. He built schools and monasteries to spread culture among his people.
