In the last 30 years, there has been much discussion about the efficacy of standardized tests, like the SATs and ACTs, as predictors of success in college. Many small schools have decided to go "test optional" while University of California system has decided to not consider them for any student. A majority of US colleges and universities still require them.

Read the following sources and create a synthesized argument that defends, challenges, or qualifies the following statement: Standardized Tests like the ACTs and SATs continue to be a worthwhile measure of student fit and should continue to be used for admission to college and universities.

As a public University admissions As a University Admissions officer I receive an influx of applications each year. By requiring SAT or ACT scores it generates a baseline for us to narrow down the overwhelming number of candidates. Upon narrowing down the candidates we are left with a smaller pool of students, where we are then able to narrow down the students through their recommendations, transcripts and various other qualifiers. This initial baseline allows us to ensure we are picking the best qualified and fit students to thrive at our University.

Therefore we have more time to scan each and every application for unique students we think would diversify College U. This means that we often do not look for just the highest SAT scores and instead search for individuality in applications. Please take this fact into consideration when applying to College U, and remember our slogan, College U the College for everyone.

In my experience creativity is more important and valuable in the long run than a test score. Test scores don't define you. Your scores only determine how well you can take a test. But, in real life we aren't given a test to take everyday to evaluate our knowledge. Instead, our whole life is a learning process, not meant to be evaluated, but to be experienced. So, don't base your whole life off one test score. You will make the most of any place you end up. Embrace the life of creativity and your own passions. It will serve you better in the end, and enable you to live a fulfilling life. As the CEO of a successful company, I have, firsthand, experienced the joy that comes in fulfilling your dreams, rather than being tied to an obsolete way of life.

The UC University System has decided to phase out the use of standardized test scored in our admissions process. We feel that they are not an accurate reflection of a students intelligence, and a lot of extra time and money outside of school is required to get good scores. It is more a measure of how well you can study and how many resources you have at your disposal rather than a measure of how successful you will be in college and your intellect. The world is changing and growing everyday, the SATS are a thing of the past and we believe in looking towards the future.
