Cesar is Diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer. He is told best case is he could live maybe 11 more months. He gets his affairs in order, and begins treatment right away. Later it’s decided that his cancer is operable and gets scheduled for March 2020.

Cesar’s work centers around epidemiology

Cesar is the only Epidemiologist in four hour radius. He becomes a liaison for nearby Mexico, the city, state, and CDC. He program coordinates for all nearby cases of STIs and HIV. Through his work he meets and helps many people treat and/or manage their illnesses. One patient he recalls made an impact leaving him with quote he really liked—“It takes all kinds to fill the freeway”. He feels it perfectly describes the diversity of people he treats and how people should not judge and doctors especially should give exceptional care towards every patient.

Cesar develops a PowerPoints a goes in person to guest lecture for Jr. High, High Schools, and the local college health classes. His presentations become popular because he discusses scenarios, presents true facts and local stats, doesn’t sugar coat, allows for humor. He answered all the questions teens/adults have about how to prevent STIs, what to watch out for, how to get help, what happens when you don’t. Anyone that went to school in Yuma in the 90s-2015 saw his presentation at least once.

Cesar learns to play the piano

Cesar and Norma get upright piano from a relative. Cesar’s makes a deal with his daughter Krystal to both learn piano. She’s in fourth grade when they begin. Many evenings are spent taking turns singing and playing. Sometimes Cesar would play guitar while Krystal plays piano. They take turns singing and harmonizing.

The couple begins their first business, “Norma Enterprise”. They sold salvage restored vehicles. It was a good side hustle, they sold about two cars at a time and got to drive some nice cars. They sold mostly Toyota’s and Mercedes.

Cesar gets into Real Estate

Cesar reads a life changing book “Rich Dad, Poor Dad”. It inspires him to buy houses. Being a handyman, he starts buying homes to fix up and rent out. He gets his wife and sons to help out. They rent to section 8 housing where the government pays peoples rent. Little by little they acquire more and more properties.

Cesar and family sell the Somerton home and move to a house that they design and help build themselves from the ground up.

Cesar has major surgery to operate on removing. Prayers are answered. It was a success, doctor believes he was able to get all the cancer. Post Surgery Cesar goes into remission.

Covid 19 Pandemic hits hard

Just weeks following surgery, Yuma goes into quarantine. For Cesar and his family, all his children move back into to Yuma to quarantine together and support him post surgery. Cesar IV and Erik telework from their government jobs. His Daughter Krystal takes on gathering supplies for the household and cooking for the family. His wife, helps nurse him to health.

2018-2019 Sons move back home, daughter moves away

January- Oldest Grandson, Ethan joins the Marines. Cesar is very proud and supportive of his decision to serve his country the way he did.

February- Son Erik moves back into the house after being served divorce papers. A few days out of the week Grandson Michael comes to spend time. The divorce is more civil than it was for their other son. Cesar gets to do many things with Michael. To his delight, his grandson shows interest in music and loves to hear his Tata play.

September- Norma and Cesar celebrate 55 years married!

His family was very poor but everybody worked, even the kids. His first job as a young child was going door to door selling packets of seeds. He saved up his money to build himself a shoe shine box. He shined shoes until a business man asked him if he’d like to sell newspapers for him.

Cesario learned all sorts of handy skills from his family and on his own.
