Today, there are more LGBTQ+ athletes than ever before competing openly as their true selves.

2022 saw the first openly gay player to come out in professional UK men’s football in over 30 years. The Lionesses became Euros Champions with 7 openly LGBTQ+ players on the squad. Over 40 openly LGBTQ+ athletes competed at this year’s Commonwealth Games. But for every success story, there are countless more untold stories of LGBTQ+ people who are forced to abandon their love of sports and fitness. Because in PE lessons, the gym and in the stands, people bully, belittle and exclude, making them feel out of place. Sport is for all, and everyone should be welcome.

We’ve designed these lesson packs for you to use in Rainbow Laces week and beyond, because LGBTQ+ inclusion has no off season.

LGBT+ History Month Resource and Education Pack for 2023. LGBT+ young people exist in every space where young people are, including classrooms. At The Proud Trust, we often talk about the quote “if you can see it you can be it…” The opportunity that positive education during LGBT+ History Month provides is therefore twofold:

To give young people the knowledge to understand and embrace the rich diversity of the world they live in, and for some, the words to describe their own experiences.

To make visible the LGBT+ people who have been successful in a myriad of different professions.

This year’s theme “Behind the Lens” gives us a wonderful opportunity to recognise and celebrate the lives and professional accomplishments of lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans people, many of who work outside of the limelight in the fields of photography, film making, TV, music and fashion.

Parents and carers are usually the people who spend most time with their children, know them best, love them and are invested in their well-being. It is important to consider how, as professionals, we ensure that they feel appropriately supported in order to achieve the best outcomes for children and young people. This document assumes that the reader has an understanding of child sexual exploitation (CSE) which is a type of child sexual abuse (CSA). As a child takes on the exciting new responsibility of owning a mobile phone, it is crucial that they understand the importance of using it with respect and being mindful of their online presence. Parents and carers should go through the agreement point by point with their child, discussing each guideline to ensure a mutual understanding.

These resources focus on Israel and Palestine and are split into seven weeks of content that cover the history of the conflict. They challenge students and learners to examine a range of sources such as images, maps and documentation in order to debate and discuss different view points in a polite and respectful way, and in the controlled environment of a classroom, before reaching their own views on the topic.

Accessing these resources will require you to create an account with Parallel Histories
