It has been identified that the RBMS staff uses a variety of strategies and collaborative efforts to plan and deliver quality instruction for students. Student progress is monitored using a balanced system of assessments. Instructional practices are refined as needed with assistance from literacy and math coaches in several content areas.

Although we feel that the grading practices used by teachers in most content areas, grade levels, or both provide an accurate indication of student progress, we have identified the need to develop a school wide/content area grading plan which will help provide fair and equitable grading to all of our students. There is a need to establish grade policies that reduce grade inflation. We also feel it is important to further develop our students’ sense of personal responsibility and accountability by engaging them in record keeping, self monitoring, and self reflection. Students need to be trained in the use of Infinite Campus Student Portal to assist them in their self monitoring. Additionally, we have identified the need to better prepare teachers and students to use new technology to enhance student learning in all academic and non-academic subject areas.

RBMS makes a strong effort to welcome all stakeholders by creating a positive environment and by encouraging active participation in a variety of on and off campus activities, meetings and events. We feel effective communication with stakeholders could be enhanced by mainstreaming communication regarding student learning and aid in parental and community support. To support student growth and success, we should add a math and literacy night for parents to attend to learn strategies they can do at home to improve academic achievement. Families are empowered to advocate for their children through multiple ongoing opportunities to communicate with teachers, staff and administrators. RBMS is committed to sharing leadership with stakeholders through the Local School Governance Team, the Athletic Booster Club and careful consideration to parental feedback on survey results. We feel a PTO addition would encourage additional parental involvement and voice. RBMS is committed to continuing all efforts to engage family and community members in order to further support student learning and success.

Student safety at RBMS is a priority. School rules and procedures are visible throughout the school and safety procedures are practiced regularly to ensure student safety. A multi-tiered system of supports is in place to identify struggling students and interventions are provided as needed. The learning community at RBMS is positive. Teachers care about their students on a personal and learning level.

The need to provide interventions to more students will be addressed through extra coaching support, tutoring, and additional remedial classes. Student concerns regarding not feeling fair treatment by others will be addressed through guest speakers, school wide assemblies and school wide mentoring, counseling, and Georgia Hope.

2.3

RBMS develops and retains a quality staff through a variety of measures. Existing and new teachers have multiple opportunities to collaborate with their grade level, their content area, and their instructional coaches in order to improve instructional quality. Guidelines have been established for collaboration to ensure productivity. New teachers are also provided support through the new teacher induction program. Maintaining a positive school culture with high student expectations assists with attracting staff. When teacher positions are vacant, leadership immediately utilizes county guidelines, the LSGT, sister school input, and teacher feedback to attract and retain qualified staff. Providing all staff with coaching and administrative support, providing new teachers with mentor support, and maintaining open lines of communication help to retain staff effectively. Student needs are met by looking at data from MAPS. Emotional needs are met by Sources of Strength surveys during homeroom through our mentoring program.

RBMS leadership creates and maintains a culture conducive to academic success by building strong relationships with students and staff as well as ensuring that the school's mission and vision continually guide the school improvement process. Leadership opportunities are cultivated through professional learning opportunities and staff meetings. High quality instruction is expected, supported and monitored in all classrooms. RBMS leadership effectively manages and monitors the school and its resources and continues to drive improvement efforts in order to maintain high quality education in a safe, clean and inviting environment.
