Scientific Method

During this unit, we learned how to answer a question or solve a problem during a lab. We did this by using prior knowledge, making a hypothesis, following procedures, creating a data table, making descriptive observations, and wrapping it up with a good lab conclusion. We also learned the difference between a quantitative+ qualitative observation and independent+dependent variables.

The water bottle flipping lab was defiantly my favorite. It was funny trying to flip trash water bottles with too much & too little water.

It is important to learn this, so that if you are in a troubled situation and you need to solve something, you will be able to. You can find the square root of the problem, and use the scientific method to find different strategies to solving your problem.

This unit we studied rocks and minerals, the Earth (the four eras), plate tectonics, and volcanoes/earthquakes. We are now able to identify minerals and classify rocks. We can name the four eras and the different types of boundaries.
My favorite thing was the songs Freels showed us. They were absolutely hilarious in my opinion, and watching him dance was even better.
It is important to learn geology because we can see how old things are by looking at the layers. You could somewhat be able to predict the future by reflecting on the past.

Our class learned Newtons 3 Laws of Motion: inertia, every action has an equal and opposite reaction, and an object will go in the direction the force acts upon it. We also learned contact and non-contact forces, along with surface tension.
Being able to work with my group to make my video to explain the laws was my favorite. Even though we messed around and had a good time, we still made our video look good and ended up getting a good grade.
It is important to learn about this because they teach us about the forces we see in everyday life. They all explain easy forces that happen with just about anything, and make perfect logical sense.

This unit taught us how to use different equations to find force, speed, velocity, and acceleration. We know how to find negative and positive acceleration. Mr. Freels also taught us what air resistance and free fall is.
My favorite part was the Hot Wheels lab. I think it was cool to see how wrong some peoples hypothesis' were about their group's cars.
It is important to learn this so in the future, when you start driving and go on trips, you can calculate different things. You can see approximately how long it will take you to get there, how fast you accelerate, etc.

We learned the difference between prokaryotic cells, eukaryotic cells, and bacteria. We can now identify what cells belong to a plant, and to an animal.
The best part about this unit was being able to use the microscopes and look at different slides. The slides with the blood on it was an eye catcher to me because I had never saw what blood cells look like before.
It is important to learn this because you need to know how your body is different from others, and from plants because you cant preform the same care on everyone. You could not give a human the same care you would a plant.

I was going to warn you to beware of Freels when he drinks coffee... but I then remembered you sadly will not have him next year. UNLESS, you take Project Lead the Way! When you take this 7th grade science class, you learn some of the most important things to life, but in a fun, creative way. You're ACTUALLY not bored the whole year. If you are scared of birds, just want to let you know, you might have chickens next year, and these chickens are scary looking... Other than that, everything else this year was fun and I had a great time in this class. It makes me sad to say goodbye. I wish the best of luck to you. I hope you enjoy this class as much as I did!
