I have taken a notable influence from the production styles, aesthetics & also live performance style of Scott, which he has dubbed "raging". His shows are characterised by visually engaging choreographed chaos, mosh pits, stage dives etc. and are a uniting experience for fans, but widely considered dangerous after the tragic deaths at his Astroworld festival in 2021. (Coscarelli, 2021) His music fuses genres with dark, psychedelic, ambient beats, heavily featuring elements like textured synth compositions, electric guitars & bouncy trap drums. He has a distinctive style of vocal mixing, utilising autotune, distortion & guitar pedal-like chorus/phase effects on his vocals to compliment his experimental vocal styles, which consist of catchy melodic singing, technical rap flows & heavily processed humming/yelling ad-libs His visuals in both music videos & live shows boast a similar woozy, hypnotic effect to his music.

$uicideboy$' created a signature style by combining elements of darker rap sub-genres like phonk, shadow rap, horrorcore -and modernising them. Their sound involves an intricate array of rap flows, whimsical melodic vocals, ballad like singing and even screaming. With one of the two cousins, Ruby, having a background in a metal band and the other, Scrim, having a background as a rapper & hip hop producer, together they boast many vocal & productional abilities. Their beats range from dark & trippy to bright & vibrant, also ranging between being energetic, or slower and more emotional -often built around classical or creepy instrument samples. A signature element of their early music was chopped samples of old-school rap lyrics in place of generic hooks, until they were sued by members of Three Six Mafia for it. They are also known for controversial, sometimes confronting lyrical content which often has themes of mental health battles & darker aspects of life such as their struggles with depression, drug use/addiction, self depreciation and the feeling of being misfits or outcasts in society. (Cortez, 2024) Their musical versatility & courage to experiment sonically, along with open book vulnerability is something that their fans and I alike have deeply connected to.

Kid Cudi

Scott took a great influence from Kid Cudi's melodies, production choices and the emotive storytelling & rockstar blues infused in his music, even going as far as to say "There would be no Travis Scott if it wasnt for Cudi". Travis put the "Scott" in his name as a nod to Kid Cudi's actual name, Scott Mescudi. Something myself and many others find admirable is the fact that his music mostly touches on his battles within his own mind, and doesn't glorify the material wealth or lavish life that most rappers do. (Aquil, 2018) some have dubbed him the "father of Emo rap" due to the vulnerability often expressed in his music.

Kanye West

West is not only an influence on Scott, but modern music as a whole. His talents took him from making beats for other artists, to being a staple figure in Hip hop in the 2000s. (Burns, Woods & Lafrance, 2016) He has continued to evolve as the sound of rap has changed, but also shape it himself. He moves in many lanes stylistically and fuses the sounds of generic hip-hop, modern trap, dance, R&B and more. His vocal & mixing styles span far and wide & he has mastered the art of catching the listener's attention with his lyrics, which can often be very upfront, controversial and emotional, but on the other hand, motivating, inspiring and powerful.

Bones

Bones influenced $uicideboy$ & a plethora of other underground artists of the "Soundcloud era" to pursue a sound and asthetic similar to his. His early visuals have a gritty DIY home video feel. His music often feels similar & his work often comes in quantity over quality, having released over 100 projects to date. He has capitalised heavily on being mysterious and out of the spotlight, a trait seen in many modern artists today. (Stone, 2015) He is regarded as one of the fathers of "Shadow Rap". Although that is his most popular sound, dark trippy rap is not his only strong suit. Bones shows a great versatility in his music & can move from almost any kind of rap music, to alternate rock, RnB & even disco music under his lesser known alias "Ricky A Go Go".

Lil Wayne

Lil Wayne has been influencing modern Hip Hop since he was a teenager. He cemented himself by flaunting his lavish lifestyle of wealth, women & drug use & by releasing overwhelming amounts of music -though he has always been involved with & rapped about the "street" lifestyle, his styles of music & fashion often contradicted aspects of that. (Westhoff, 2011) His style such as dreadlocks, face tattoos, iced out grillz & jewellery can be seen echoed by a large amount of artists at the forefront of rap music today. He speaks to this on "God Did" where he raps "Dreadlocks, face tats, I'm the apex, I made the culture, what up twin? Never laid back"

Wondagurl

Wondagurl is a producer known for her beats & most notably her signature style of drum programming, which utilises slightly off tempo hi-hat & snare arrangements, heavy, but clear kicks that cut through the mix & pitch sliding 808 basslines. Another core element of her sound is creatively chopping, gating, time stretching or reversing samples. Wonda & Scott joined forces early in their careers & created many early staple songs for Travis, most notably "Antidote" which was one of Scott's early hits. (Foster, 2022) The unique bounce of her drums had a huge influence on how both Travis' and my own beats sound.

Three6Mafia

Three 6 mafia's style consists of dark lyrics, that are a blend of street culture & dark spirituality, sometimes even considered evil or hellish -over gritty trap production. They often touch on topics like drug use, violence, murder & devil worship. (Cortez, 2024) though extremely controversial, their music has influenced a plethora of new generation artists like $uicideboy$ & they are core pioneers in the sounds we know as HorrorCore & Phonk today.
