The term "baby boomer" refers to people born during a time of high birth rates - called the baby boom, between 1946-1964. The term "OK baby boomer" can be received as condescending. It is a phrase used by teenagers and young adunts to mock or dismiss what a 'baby boomer' is saying. It is also used to refer to older people in general, who were born before this time. It is like saying "Whatever." It is ageist because it puts this age group in a box and stereotypes them and the comment is mocking them or not paying attention or accepting what they have to say.

I believe the phrase "Okay Boomer," is now a derogative term. It started off as a joke, but it has been misused lately. The term is commonly used by Gen Z to dismiss or disregard the Baby Boomers who are not as tech savvy as younger generations. It is used on the elderly and even on people who are not fluent in computer literacy.

I think that Baby Boomers are the most powerful demographic group in history. At 76 million strong, boomers have the influence to rule the marketplace and make sure they keep a place set just for them as the largest generation. Due to its large size, the Baby Boom generation has had a significant impact on society, business, and the economy. As this generation consists of the people who are well educated and they know how to survive in this new and fast forwarding generated world. As the baby boomers are the ones who are born during the world war-2, i believe that the term ageist is perfectly suited for it.

So, let's start this off with the history of discrimination.

Discrimination is the short term for saying words against a group to either hurt or belittle them, this can be used in many different ways, doesn't matter the age, ethnic race, gender or position of power.
You, me and everyone else have been discriminated against once in our life times in some way, shape, or form.

The definition of Boomer, a term to describe a group of people born after the second World War after Japan surrendered to the United States military, many people who fought in the war went home and celebrated, they celebrated a lot, the economy was booming after the war stopped the great depression, and many people had kids. These groups of people were named "Boomers", due to the rise in births. Canada, as an example, was still being commanded by the Britain at the time, and many Canadians went back home with Britain wives, or stayed in Britain. You'll realise that a lot of these Canadian/British soldiers will have children. Which lead to the second largest increase in the baby boom after the war, only beaten by the one and only United States for the most amount of children born during that time.

Now, "Okay Boomer" was a trend starting in about 2019, used as a Joke as a response to when an older person, doesn't matter the age, race or gender, so long as the person in question using the term was younger then the targeting individual. This joke wasn't very popular at first, memes posted about these sorts of jokes grew popularity on the internet as the joke continued to grow just like any other sort of humour by the current generation of internet users.

Now, for a VERY long time, it has been a stereotype for older people to say "back in my day..." or sorts of the like to "When I was younger, I didn't have whatever you had" and or "Millennial's" these days and ironically older people were saying stuff to the equivalent of "Okay Boomer" for a very long time to kids. Is this wrong? If saying "Okay Boomer" is wrong, then this should be wrong too, no?

Now why would this be ageist? It makes no sense in any regard why this would be ageist. If you apply this the other way around, as I said before is that still ageist against kids? If so, then explain to me why these two things would be ageist to these groups, because if something originating as a joke to mock old people for saying those "back in my day comments" who is the discriminator?

It's like implying that because a group cannot take a joke, that it is discriminating against them as a person and that's just not right, that just doesn't make sense in regards to what we are applying here.

A good example would be calling someone a Karen, A Karen is a middle aged woman, who drives a minivan, has 2 boys that attend soccer and always loses it with employees and begs for the manager. Is this stereotype discrimination? To call someone a "Karen"

If something originating as a joke is taken seriously, people should find something more important to worry about, find a more controversial and important matter to waste their time on then to be offended by humour.

I'd gladly continue this conversation with someone, if they wanted too or have any questions.

"Okay Boomer" is a meme that went viral on the internet as of recently. The phrase is commonly used jokingly with young people calling each other boomers, and sometimes zoomers. Personally I think if someone was to call someone older and say "okay boomer." would be offensive just as saying "millennials these days." is wrong and hurtful as its incorrectly categorizing and dismissing the individual for the examples above, no one should (young or wise with age) have to deal with any of it.
