A coral reef is made up of thousands of tiny animals called coral polyps. These tiny animal polyps and algae have grown together to create a large structure called a coral reef. This coral reef is home for thousands of species of plants and animals.

This biome can be found along the equatorial line, especially in the Congo Basin, the Amazon and Southeast Asia. They are characterized by their abundant rainfall that can reach 5000 mm in a single year. By their high average temperatures. And by their diversity of fauna and flora.

Regarding its flora, we can find a great variety depending on the level. There are three main levels. In the first we can find the leaves and branches of the tallest trees that create the roofs of leaves. And other plants such as climbing plants and vines, lichens, orchids, and bromeliads.
On the second level we can find the vegetation that has become accustomed to obtaining the sun's rays indirectly due to the leaf roofs, some of these are: climbing plants, ferns, low palm trees, fig trees, mosses and fungi of different types. And in the third level we can find vegetation that is especially sensitive to light. For example mushrooms.

Regarding its fauna, we can find a variety of species of insects and arachnids, as well as amphibians, reptiles and mammals. Some of the most popular examples of the Amazon rainforest would be amphibians and reptiles like the poison dart frog or the anaconda snake. Or carnivorous mammals like the jaguar. If we move to the African rainforest, some of the most popular examples are the gorillas, chimpanzees, and lemurs. And if we move to the Asian rainforest, some of the most popular examples are: tigers, orangutans, kangaroos, and some rodents.

An example of a tropical forest - The Amazon
An example of a tropical forest can be the Amazon rainforest.

Coral reefs provide habitat for a large variety of marine life, including various sponges, oysters, clams, crabs, sea stars, sea urchins, and many species of fish. Coral reefs are also linked ecologically to nearby seagrass, mangrove, and mudflat communities. One of the reasons that coral reefs are so highly valued is because they serve as a center of activity for marine life.
