The human pathogen that I chose to discuss for this padlet is a fungal infection that comes from the genus family Candida, known as Candidasis. Candidasis is a fungal infection that is caused by yeast. This type of fungal infection can develop anywhere in the body, but is found in these three most common regions of the body: the mouth or throat, known as thrush, the vagina, known as a yeast infection, and the Invasive Candidasis; which is when the yeast invades the bloodstream, and spreads throughout the host body. Depending on where the fungal infection is, depends on the types of symptoms someone will have. Tiredness and fatigue, digestive issues, joint pain, skin or nail fungal infections, rash, or an on occurring genital or urinary tract infection are some symptoms that could occur. Because yeast do live upon us and thrive in a warm environment, they can be transferred to anyone, young or old, healthy or not, by direct or indirect contact, sexually or indirectly by a towel for an example. Candida is usually found in small amounts around a persons mouth or intestines. When the fungus is at normal levels, this issue is not problematic, but if the fungus starts to grow out of control then it becomes an infection known as Candidasis. Because these fungal infections are common, they are pretty easily treated. Most patients would take an over the counter prescription of some kind of anti fungal cream, pill, or suppository, depending on where the yeast invasion is presented.

For fungal infections most doctors will prescribe OTC anti-fungal creams, ointments, or suppositories. Some common OTC treatments for a vaginal infection would be AZO pills or monistat. Anything on the surface of the skin is usually treated with an ointment, some doctors also prescribe one dose of an oral anti-fungal known as fluconazole.
