These are the blood vessels that carry the oxygen rich blood out of the heart. Some arteries branch out of the aorta, the first branches called the coronary arteries carry blood to the heart itself. The arteries also control blood pressure. This happens when you are running. If your running your muscle cells need more oxygen- which the blood is carrying. To make sure that this happens the vessels near the muscles will relax and open up. Since the stomach, for example. doesn’t need as much oxygen at that moment their vessels contract.
