If the school decides to follow the HMH structure, vocabulary, reading, writing, and grammar will be integrated into each lesson, unlike our current approach (which focuses on reading and writing as separate lessons). This might ensure that all components are covered daily, providing a more cohesive learning experience. Still, we need to consider the time restrictions.

What can improve:

HMH Into Reading is a well-structured and research-based ELA program but too many skills to do in one lesson. So we plan to split reading and writing on different days, where the first 3 lessons we focus on reading, vocabulary and grammar and the last three lessons we focus on writing for each week.

I really like that HMH into Reading has evidence-based instruction which emphasizes phonics, phonemic awareness, vocabulary, fluency, and comprehension. It uses structured literacy approaches to support students who are on different levels of reading. I think the cross curricular component is excellent, as it promotes a deeper understanding across content areas, which encourages students to build background knowledge while developing reading skills. The Interactive lessons and videos, progress monitoring tools and personalized learning paths for students will also be a great help for both students and teachers.

HMH into Science helps students not just learn science but to think like scientists. There are active investigations and experiments which students can conduct in class. I really like the fact that there are stories before each lesson because students can see how scientists are able solve real world problems using scientific methods. The lessons are framed around real-world phenomena which promotes critical thinking of scientific concepts in everyday life. HMH also provides formative and summative assessments to measure student understanding.

HMH into Math provides lesson plans, pacing guides, intervention resources, and teaching strategies. It helps teachers differentiate instruction with different levelled activities and scaffolded supports. The lessons are interactive and gives feedback. The lessons emphasize on real-world application of math, as well as the background knowledge students need for certain topics.

Math - At first glance - comprehensive, student friendly. Performance Assessment with a guide on how to intervene with specific lessons. Math Language Routine, the one I came across is a convince yourself, friend and skeptic - students are held accountable to explain their understanding. The interactive interface of this program is exciting.

Training: I think additional training would be beneficial after getting to work with the program awhile.
