Active Learning (Manipulative/Observant)

A way that I have used Active learning would be with my online classes, because it takes a little bit to get used to learning how a teacher runs things especially when I am on my own and not in person for the teacher to explain. Another way I have been an Active learner is at work. I work at a daycare teaching three-year-olds and it is sometimes difficult to see what way is best to teach a room full of fifteen three-year-olds. By trying different strategies like putting them in groups and things, it helps me to observe and learn the best way to handle it.

I have already used Constructive learning while in my first week of school this semester. In my Physics lab class, the teacher went over the power point and as I was a little confused, we were able to do an activity that visually showed us what the teacher was explaining in the lecture. This helped me to fully understand what was being taught and apply it by doing it hands on. At work when I first started, I had never changed a diaper before, so I watched someone do it first and then I took the next child and changed their diaper the way that the girl had showed me to.

In my math class this semester, a group of us have made a group chat to help each other if we have a question on what is disgust in class by the teacher. This helps us all to be able to put our input on what we think the correct steps are and in class we are able to all understand better. This summer I went camping with some friends and to put the tent up, we all took part and read the instructions together and eventually we all got our tent put up by conversing on what we thought was the correct way.

When I was younger, in grade school and we were taught to add, multiply, divide, subtract, we are taught how to get the answer, however most teachers fail to educate us on how to use these things in our everyday life, like when buying things at the store. In high school I was in a personal finance class, and we were taught all these words and terms, but we were not taught anything about credit, writing out checks, budgeting, or how the words will apply to finances in real life.

I am being an intentional learner right now as I am in college with goals of becoming a teacher one day. I am learning as much as I can in my education classes so that I can apply it to my work once I am a teacher one day. When I was younger I took art classes with a goal to get better at drawing and painting on a regular basis.
