1.	The main issues in this scenario are that Mavis is feeling alone and scared. No one is introducing themselves to Mavis or telling her what they are going to do before they do it. No familiar face is with her to keep her calm as they were not allowed to go in the ambulance.
2.	This was a poor experience for Mavis due to these issues. She felt less scared when someone was holding her hand, however understanding how busy hospitals are this may not be possible for someone to be with her all the time.
3.	This could have been improved for Mavis if her neighbour could have travelled in the ambulance with her so she was there for the whole time to support Mavis during this scary period, until Bill arrived. All the professionals could introduce themselves and explain the procedure before they did anything so she understood what was happening.
4.	Mavis did not have a voice as no one communicated with her or asked her if she is ok to have an x-ray or to be examined. Due to the fact she has dementia, people assumed she didn’t understand, especially when they thought she hit out, but I believe this was simply because they didn’t explain what was happening.
5.	To give Mavis a voice, they need to gain consent and ask her why she ‘hit out’. Simply by finding her views will give her a voice.

Communication – None of the staff communicated with Mavis. She is out of her own environment, meaning she will feel disorientated and frightened. The ambulance – A person with dementia should not have been made to go to hospital alone. Her neighbour or husband should have been in the ambulance with her to make her feel more at ease. No consent given – Mavis didn’t agree to any of the staff touching her, moving her legs, giving her pain relief. Mavis should have been asked about the procedures happening to her. No explanation – The neighbour is informed that she may have broken her hip, was Mavis informed? No explanation of what an X-ray is. No explanation as to why they are deciding as to whether to do the x-ray or not. Why is she been left behind curtain on her own? No one introduced themselves. Who was the kind lady? Who was touching her? What were the ambulance people called? Who was the man whistling? No reassurance – Mavis is crying at the end and no one is reassuring her, holding her hand, no one has told her they have rang Bill. Have the even rang Bill? Was this a quality experience for Mavis?Absolutely not. Mavis has not been treated with any quality care. There are a lot of aspects wrong with this scenario and how the staff have treated Mavis. •	Could anything be done to improve this for Mavis?Explanation, reassurance and communicating to Mary would have made her experience a lot more enjoyable. Getting in contact with Bill would have put her at ease. •	Did Mavis have a voice here? What could you do to give Mavis a voice?Mavis did not have a voice. Asking Mavis for informed consent would have given her a voice. Being an advocate for Mavis would have also been appropriate.
