It is a drama film which tells the story of a self-destructive 1960s rock star. The story is based on the life of singer Janis Joplin. The Rose was nominated for four Academy Awards: best actress, best actor, best film, and best sound.

Janes Joplin rose to fame in the late 60's. She was the premier white female blues vocalist of the 60's.
She started singing at age  17 before dropping out the school in 1963 to sing folck songs, and specially blues songs in Texax's clubs.
