Stand like the Statue of Liberty

Provide each student with a flashlight and textbook. After ensuring overhead lights are turned off, demonstrate how the Statue of Liberty stands. Instruct students to turn on their flashlights, to act as a torch, and hold their textbook in their arm. Remind them that they have to be quiet! Lady Liberty doesn't get to talk! Let them stand for a little while. Ask them if they think they could do that for decades!

Split into groups for science experiment

2-4 groups depending on class size. Students will be placed in a spot in the room where a poil pie pan will be waiting with a vinegar and salt mixture inside. One penny for each student will be next to it on a napkin. Have a volunteer, or worker of the day if a class job, pass out experiment papers. Instruct students to each drop their penny into the foil pan. Students will observe what happens to the pennies when they are dropped into the mixture. Hint: they turn green!
