"Earth Song" is the third single from the HIStory album by the American singer Michael Jackson. The single was released in 1995 and continued with Michael's work to release songs with social messages such as "We are the World", "Man in the Mirror" and "Heal the World." "Earth Song" was written by Jackson in 1991, but it ended up being left out of that year's album. Andrae Crouch's gospel choir was invited to do the song's backvocal. They had previously worked with Jackson on previous songs like "Man in the Mirror" and "Will You Be There." Michael's intention was to create a song of deep lyricism and simple melody so that people from all over the world could sing along. The song has a mood of classical music, the kind of music that appeared the most on the album it was released on. In the track, Jackson alerts the social conscience, warning that we are going too far with our attitudes towards the planet Earth. The song was nominated for a Grammy in 1997.
