The Louvre is one of the most famous landmarks in France. It is a place that has seen many things like war, the jobbery of one of the most famous paintings in the world, and abandonment. So why was the Louvre built? The Louvre was a fortress when it was created. It was used to defend and protect soldiers, but now it is a place of protection for some of the most famous paintings in the world. In 1791 during the French Revolution, it was decided that the Louvre would be a museum, and now the Louvre is the most visited museum. What does the Louvre hold inside? Some of the most famous paintings are held in the Louvre. The Mona Lisa, the Starry Night, Girl with A Pearl Earring, the Kiss, and The Birth of Venus are the top five most famous paintings in the Louvre. The Louvre is home to over seven thousand and five hundred paintings dating back to the 13th century. It is also home to sculptures, antiques, Islamic art, etc. What are some fun facts about the Louvre? The Louvre is the most visited museum in the world. Its galleries span 15 acres. In World War II, the Louvre was utterly empty and abandoned. They saw that there had been looting in other museums, and they wanted to box the paintings and sculptures to save and preserve them. Not all of the paintings in the Louvre are by French artists, but sixty-six percent are. The Louvre is a magical place where you can get lost in art for hours.

Resources:

louvre-Auteur. “The Musée Du Louvre .” Espace Presse Du Musée Du Louvre, 8 Aug. 2023, presse.louvre.fr/le-musee-du-louvre-2-

1852 the Musée de l'Orangerie was built, but it was not a museum. It was built to protect the orange trees from freezing in the winter. Before the Musée de l'Orangerie, the Grande Galerie of the Louvre housed these trees from the bitter winter. In 1921, it was declared that the Musée de l'Orangerie would become a museum, and in 1922, the insulation of Water Lilies by Claude Monet was completed. The Musée de l'Orangerie was built for length and made of glass on the south side and bricks on the garden/north side, and this was because the builders wanted to make the Musée de l'Orangerie the warmest possible for these fruit trees. During the 1970s, the Musée de l'Orangerie seemed a little old-fashioned to the public. Hence, the Musée de l'Orangerie underwent a considerable renovation to make the space more intriguing to the public eye. Now, the Musée de l'Orangerie is accepted and visited by 800,000 people annually. It is a beautiful stop to make on your trip to France, and this Museum has such a rich and exciting history.

Resources:

“From the Orangerie to the Museum.” Musée de l’Orangerie, www.musee-orangerie.fr/en/node/24.

Kunsthaus Zürich is a museum in Zürich, the largest city in Switzerland, but surprisingly, it is not the capital. Zürich is located in central Switzerland. The Kunsthaus Zürich was created and started by a group of artists who were passionate about what they did. They would meet to discuss their creations and give each other advice or constructive criticism. The Kunsthaus Zürich was founded in 1787. The group contributed their art and their designs to the Kunsthaus Zürich. Some of the most essential artists in the Kunsthaus Zürich are Alberto Giacometti, impressionists such as Monet, and artists from the classic modern movement such as Picasso and Chagall. The Kunsthaus Zürich is open daily from 10 am - 6 pm and on Thursdays from 10 am - 8 pm. This museum is closed on Christmas and New Year. There is also a garden that people can wander through, which is open every day of the week. This museum also welcomes children and their families. They provide coloring sheets for the children, but they must be carried or in a buggy. Overall, this museum is a family-friendly, beautiful way to spend an afternoon.

Resources:

“Plan Your Visit.” KUNSTHAUS, www.kunsthaus.ch/en/besuch-planen/.
