Information technology and culture are two powerful forces. Our culture influences information technology, at the same time information technology also influences our culture. When modern technology is introduced into society, the culture either responds positively or negatively about it. Thus, technology changes just as people’s life changes.

How exactly does information technology impact our culture and society?

As a student in this modern generation, information technology is essential for me in terms of communication, learning, socializing, entertainment, and even for working.

One aspect of IT that has had a great impact in our society and culture is how it changes and affects our communication. For example, our culture used to write letters and mails to communicate with people. However, information technology paved the way for faster and easier ways of communication no matter where you are. IT brought up new methods of electric communication without having the need to physically go to that person’s location. There are now different ways for us to interact with people like social media like Facebook, Messenger, and other platforms.

Another aspect of technology that has significant impact in society and culture is learning. IT has made learning more fun and interactive. In addition to that, with the internet, it allows us to access different resources online. It also changes the traditional classroom setting which is usually held in a school. IT expands the boundaries of the classroom because we can now conduct classes without having to meet each other physically in the school classroom.

Information technology has positively impacted the way we behave in our society. However, it also affects us in a negative way. One of those negative effects is when it comes to socializing. We can’t deny the fact that our relationship with the people around us has been affected by technology advancement. The times that we used to spend talking to our family and friends are now replaced with time to use our gadgets. People would rather spend time with their technologies now instead of interacting and being sociable with people. It can also be distracting for students since there are a lot of entertainments. Those are only a few of the pros and cons of information technology.

To sum up everything, information technology has both favorable and unfavorable impacts on society and culture. We just need to utilize our time effectively to be able to use it for our favor.
